How long have you been in recovery?? What can you do? Sit on your hands and wait for it to pass... Jump up and down and scream bloody murder... Take a shower/bath (in cold water).. Go for a run... These are just a few of the things I've resorted to

I don't knwo what you like to do but sometimes when I get the urge I take a piece of paper and start writing down how much I hate the feeling and cursing the DOC. It helps a little. Then when I'm done I save it...I've written some pretty fiery stuff too. The next time I get an urge I read what I wrote in fury and it some how passes seeing how crazy the urge got me. I also get outside, come on here, read about recovery, read other things, bake, crosswords. One day I took about 6 showers because I knew I am calm in the shower...Whatever works do it.

Hey {{{8-ball}}}, I hope this finds you feeling better about things! I agree with the other posters ideas and sitting in a warm tub of water does calm you down...maybe even having a good cry and getting it all out?! Go for a walk or sit outside and try to pick out all the different sounds you hear...look for the good gifts that are often overlooked! And maybe a meeting wouldn't be so bad once you got there and got with others who might be feeling or have felt the same way? Just please try to stay focused and remember that the urges will subside and that having them won't kill you but using again could! You hang in there, OK?!! Jane |

Hi Spun, Well, you are journaling about it here and that takes a lot of the power out of it. I've had that feeling about the meetings lots of times, espcially when I'd have strong cravings. I'd much rather talk to a trusted sponsor during such times than open up about some stuff in meetings, but I'd take the meeting if sponsor was not available. A lot of these solutions just work better in 3D. Another thing I'd do (as a last resort), and some didn't like this, is sit down, face the pain of the strong urge and say, OK urge, I see you, it's hurting, I don't like it, but I accept it so hurt if you must hurt. Me and my HP are gonna ride this one out. That's not a fun thing but something I have to stay in practice doing because life throws me a bunch of stuff I don't like. I deflect some of it, disagree with some, deny some, feel a lot more of it, accept what I can and have to. It's getting better all the time (all the time I stay in the solution and out of the problem). Sometimes I gotta get our of my own way and just let good things happen. Keep it up Spun! Peace, sumtimes slowly |

Hey Spun, I just came out of a craving from hell. Been clean 44 days and today it hit me so hard. Had the phone in my hand and was set to dial, but I tell you the thing that got me through. I played the tape in my head over and over and over with different endings all the way to envisioning my arrest if I were to have taken the risk and gotten caught. After doing that for a good 30 minutes I went to a meeting and yes, honestly, continued the process there. I got to my car after the meeting and prayed to my Higher Power for strength and I got through it. To tell you the truth in looking back over the evening I am relieved and proud of myself. I know it's tough, but you can get through it too. Remember to have hope... Peace...
