| Brown Sugar addiction
Hi! everyone, I write in this forum regarding my boyfriend who has a brown sugar addiction. For two years...I've seen him going down...deeper and deeper...and now he's like a handicap...All day he's hunting and smoking..and..His parents live in denial.....they only sscold and beat him....and ther's always this 'us and them' thing when it comes to drugs...whatever I say..is misunderstood......and he doesn't want to go to a rehab..he wants to stop on his own.....We live in Nepal, where drug addicts are seen as criminals.....I dont know where to turn to..so i was hoping people out here in the forum would know..how he could stop this addiction on his own...besides will power and determination. Any medicines/pills? Even though the same medicines may not be found in our country I could look at the composition..and find a similar medicine...I'm really desperate....I cant see him going through this..no matter how much he tries to shut me out...Any help would be much appreciated! |

I am sorry for what your bf is dealing with. OK, maybe a stupid question, but what is 'brown sugar'. I am guessing it is slang for heroin?

It is my understanding that self detox can be done....I am just guessing but it might be a good idea to have someone around for the first couple of days at least for support. I would think you would also need to be informed about the withdrawal symptoms and when I might be necessary to seek medical assistance...

With my personal experience, this statement really hits home. I could not stop on my own and needed professional help in order to do so. I wanted and tried to stop on my own but nothing worked util I got help. As far as using will power and determination, trying to control your addiction using those things is like taking a bunch of ex-lax and trying to control the runs.

In my experience, when dealing with any opiate, it is almost impossible to detox yourself. Your mind and body will do anything to avoid being sick. I did at-home detoxes with meds prescribed by a kick doctor 5 or 6 times and always started using again as soon as the meds ran out. But that is just me. The only thing that has worked for me is an in-patient detox, then NA meetings, 90 in 90 days, a sponsor, steps. I hope you both find you way.

Prayers for you and your boyfriend. Medical attention is the best policy. I can only share that I quit an opiate addiction after 20 years, alone...I wish I would have asked for more help..it was pure hell..this site here was a life saver..but the key element was this..I had to want it more than I needed it.....the addict themselves can only determine when that is. It is hell to watch a loved one go thru addiction. My brother is an alcoholic, just lost his license and is on probation...he messes up one time..he goes to prison for 2 years straight...he has been drinking almost every night..says he can stop a week before reporting to the probation officer. As addicts we convince ourselves of al kinds of crazy irrational things, we can do it alone, we can control it, we aren't really in trouble, just gotta slow down, use less..but I believe until the drug is completely out of our sysem it is a losing battle. Is there any NA groups there? any drug programs at all you could check out? Maybe he could post on here??? I don't really have any concrete answers for you dear...but will keep you both in my prayers. Hang in there, maYBE CHECK OUT THE NAR ANON FORUM HERE, FOR LOVED ONES Who LOVE AN ADDICT...you MUST TAKE CARE OF YOU TOO. (((((((((((((((((((hUGE huGS)))))))))))))))
