please help with info

I have a son who is 23. He was found on the side of the road in his car shooting up cocaine by a state trooper. His face was gray and he had lost 35 pounds. He was filthy. His car was filthly. He was taken to jail where he remains after 7 weeks. We found out he had been doing this since Nov 04 daily. His father and I chose not to bail him out for his own safety. We are now faced to find a treatment center for him which is not easy. If anyone has been to or heard of a decent place, please reply. We live in Michigan.

Chris,
I'm so sorry to hear about your son. You and his father are doing/did the right thing by not bailing him out - tough love, and we addicts need that. As far as treatment center, I would do a search on the web and look in your local phonebook. I don't know if the one he goes to has to be in your area, but I know a lot of people go to one in another state if need be. I'm in Maryland and I went to one called Phoenix Recovery Center. It was excellent and I feel that I got very good treatment there. I don't know their phone number off hand, but it's on their website (www.phoenixrecoverycenter.com - I think). Good luck and God bless.

Hi Chris, I am also Chris & alcoholic & addict. My hat's off to ya..You probably saved his life with alittle tough LOVE.I just walked in the door from Brighton Hospital ( I went to a Meeting there AA.) But was a patient there in the past twice it is an older facility with an excellent staff .or at least back in 1997 & I believe all the staff from drs. cooks, nurses, are all "in recovery" themselves. its about a ten day program (although my last relapse trip I went there for only 4 days to detox and had no insurance so I followed it up with out-patient.I highly recommend it ..it;s in brighton mich. i-96 and kensington road. & also there is henry Ford" Maplegrove" .a nicer-newer facility in Farmington Mich. on maple road. somewhat more expensive , and (in my opimion) NOT as helpfull treatment..More of a $$$$$ maker buisiness but that was just my experience. If he has insurance ,those are good ones.. Then there is Dawn Farms in ann arbor where patients actually do chores , along with lots of treatment, meetings, one on one councelling ,group mtgs. Help with families ( loved ones) dealing with recovery (all 3 have family help available) dawn farms is one Ive never seen but heard much cheaper and on an individual's needs ...Much more long term 30-90 days. Please research more on the computer.there are many more and ALL are better than he is doing. I think Brighton Hospital saved my Life. I walked in 143 lbs-6 ft.tall & in 10 days I weighed 179 and thats after having a 4.3 alcohol level and getting my stomach pumped. I am not cured. I have relapsed. But that place planted a seed and I went from using 365 days a year for 20 yrs. to mostly 11 & a half months clean for the first few years . .its been 16 months without a drip of alcohol for me But I am Getting OFF pain pills now and go to a NA or AA mtg. everyday...I am praying for you & your son..Hoping that trooper saved his life and at his young age , Maybe he had to hit bottom and will live happy, joyess & Free from all that junk. good luck/god bless

Chris,
Brighton and Dawn Farms are both excellent facilities. I have seen and heard of many success stories from both of them. Dawn Farms is more of a long-term placement than Brighton is. I sent you a PM with their respective web sites and phone numbers.

Good luck and congratulations on NOT bailing him out. I'm sure that had to be very hard...but the right thing to do.

Jen

Hi again, chris here from walled lake mich..Imso glad you wrote back to me. I stayed sober today and "thats how it works" one alcoholic/addict trying to help another and I didnt think about my problems all day. Just prayed that you guys find peace in whatever selection (treatment center ) you make. The good news, is he 's already done ""CONCRETE DETOX"" a jail term for well , getting the physical part of detoxing behind him in the toughest of conditions. NOT too much sympothy from deputies. Now for the adjustment back into the real world . Im sure all treatment centers work the 12 step programs of AA & NA & teach us how to do it "One day at a time" ...Thats all.24 hours...The liquor stores WILL still be there & The Dope dealers will still be on every corner ( at least where I shopped) so lets pray that your son has hit his "bottom"" & at such a young age ,wants so much more out of life.changing your old friends was a big part of it for me too.I quickly found out they didnt like me when I didnt have dope and a wallet full of cash so that was relatively easy too. Im a shy guy but soon after going to AA I had twice the best friends I ever dreamed of . Dont be angry with him. Drug addiction is a disease .I hope he harbors No resentment towards you for not bailing him out immeadiatly so he could go right back to the dope.My suggestion, if he's miffed at you PRINT some of these letters .these are from people who have been there done that. Ive been to way too many Funerals ,friends, school chums, partying buddies in the past 2 yrs and all but one were drug related.I never ever thought at the time I'd say this But ""THANK YOU"" to the novi cop who busted me drunk driving with cocaine in my pocket.& the judge...who made me go to AA........Im still praying for your son & You chris P
