Methhead to prepareaholic

Wishedisno's thread really got me thinking. I started thinking about shopping and aside from my shoe issue I become obsessed with preparing for my next venture only to spend so much time and money on the preparing that I never actually succeed at the task at hand.

An example would be my elaborate file system that I was going to build so I would be more organized. After buying the books on it and all the materials, the filing cabinet, I still keep my papers in a box.

I wanted to start the southbeach diet so I bought the book, joined the web-site for $65, bought the book on CD and the necessary food. It's been a couple of months and I have yet to start the diet.

Maybe it's a cover up If I'm doing something constructive then it's really not shopping.

I think it goes deeper than that though. I thought of this after the thread and then I proceeded to sit down to pay bills and do some paperwork. In order to do the paperwork, I had to bring the stereo into the office, make it perfectly neat, set up online banking, the list goes on......and here I am talking about it. LOL

Oh Stephanie,
I think it's the thrill of the chase with us. You could look at this situation differently. You could pat yourself on the back for doing all of the preparation to get organized. The next step of carrying it all out can take a lot of time. There just aren't enough hours in the day. Give yourself credit for laying the groundwork for future goals.

I love the positive twist on that, laying the groundwork for future goals" I mean really when I was using I just threw the mail out so you can't say there hasn't been some progress there.

I have always had a problem with thinking I had to be better right now That was the same the first week out of treatment as it is 13 years later. I have to remember it's a process but it does seem that when you have one issue licked another one is just making its way over the horizon.

This is true with me too Stephanie. I sometimes lose the thrill of the journey, because I'm 20 steps ahead in my mind. I think that's how we get so many things accomplished. Some people would say "we create work". This is true to some extent. Have a good one...I have to get back to work. lol
