1 Day Clean

I'm happy. Despite last week being filled with guilt because I relapsed after 7 years, I am starting over 1 day at a time. I thought of getting high, but then thought of the negative feelings I would experience. Channeled my energies into a positive activity. I'm clean today and on my way to work. Thank you community for your support.

Hi FG,

Welcome back. Congrats on Day 1. Do you have a program/recovery plan in mind?

What Now

I want to go away for treatment and counseling but feel everyone will turn on me and be hurtful. I should throw away all my liquor in the house too.

Have you thought about meetings? Most areas have AA meetings, they're mostly free, anonymous. Then there are Lifering, SMART, Celebrate Recovery. Counseling is also private and confidential.

Throw away the liquor, absolutely. Why do you think people will turn on you and be hurtful? You mean your family?

Yes family and friends. I had been doing so well. This hurts and the guilt is terrible. I want to open up and not hold it in.

It will be alright. You can stay here and get some good counseling as well as support. I've found the folks here are very nice and kind as well as wise.

Gotta release that guilt.

while in treatment this past spring one thing i'd learned from a councilor i didn't particularly like was 'if you don't forgive yourself, then you're rejecting the the concept of a God who DOES forgive you'
has been my 'morning after' mantra

Hi feelingguilty!

I had a Drill SGT tell me years ago in Army Basic Training: "S-hit happens! Don't sweat the small stuff!" I've held onto that saying for years! So for yourself? "Don't sweat the small stuff!" You're back in the early days of starting over! Give yourself a pat on the back for starting over! Thank your lucky stars you woke up to what was happening and you got back on the right path!

There's been many times I've started over! When we fall down there's always a hand up when we need it! Don't ever feel alone in faulty things! There's lot's of positive things out there to reach for instead!
