| I need some HELP
I posted this on the newcomers board, but after reading a few threads I think it belongs here... Hi! I am currently an active addict. I'm addicted to prescription drugs. I switched from oxy, my drug of choice, to duragesic patches. The plan was to lower the dose each month until I was off. my last drop ended up putting me into some pretty bad withdraw. Instead of riding it out, I convinced my doc to put me back on oxy... STUPID STUPID STUPID!!!so I'm going to se him on tuesday to see if he'll put me back on the patches, amd again, lowering the dose each month. If I get so sick I can't stand it then it's time for rehab. i also need someone to talk to. Either NA/AA or a shrink, or both. I have nobody for support. No friends. Who needs friends when I have my best friend... OXY to keep me company. Any thoughts? opinions? Just a HELLO? I've never been so scared or felt so alone in my life! |

Hey SysFixer, Here's a dozen hellos and welcomes to you until the snoozers get here. SO glad you made it to SR. You'll get tons of support and information here. Everyone here likes to share their experiences. Glad you have a doctor working for you. That's a very bright strategy. All is not lost for you. Come back and post with us and let us know how your recovery's going. I'm an alcoholic so I can't help you with oxy, but I certainly know what it's like to come off an addiction. It's no fun, but necessary.

Hi Sys!! Welcome to SR!! I'm also an active addict, hooked AGAIN on prescription pain pills. What p!sses me off is that my doctor KNOWS that I'm an addict. I can't get my muscle relaxers or Fioricets anymore, but I just got other stuff from him. Of course, I'm abusing the h#ll outta them. I'll run out WAY before I'm able to refill them, and then I don't know what I'll do. The thing is, I was doing so well. I was around 2 months clean. This time. But the second I saw an opportunity to get more.... I grabbed at it!! I admire the fact that you're going to get your doctor to lower the dose. And believe me, I COMPLETELY understand the part where you were talking about not having any friends to talk to. I don't have one single friend either. Hopefully you will go to NA. That may help you stay clean. And I know I'm not clean anymore, but if you'd like to talk to me, you can always PM me. I'd like to help in any way I can. I DO understand how hard this is. |

Sysfixer, It sounds like you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. It is a good thing that you recognize you are powerless over the drugs. ( Ste #1). And you mention many alternatives in your post. As a recovering addict of opiates, the longer you have been on them, the harder it is to do on your own. Please seriously consider rehab. There is so much help there and so many things that they can do to help in the detox. There is also lots that they can do to help you emotionally and spiritually. I tried so many times to stop on my own. The flesh was willing, but the spirit was weak. I finally lost my job and had to hit rock bottom. My goal is to help as many people as possible realize there is help for them before they have to hit rock bottom. It can be done. I will celebrate 6 years of sobriety on November 3rd! Keep posting and you know we are always out here for you! :tongue3:
