| Subatex Program
Greetings all. My youngest daughter (21) who has been on the Subatex program for nearing one week after a frightful extended experience with Heroin. Medical professional privilege does not permit me to seek guidance from her treating Dr, and I am distressed not to know what side effects I may observe in my daughter, which are attributed directly to Subatex. I KNOW she is not using any illicit drugs at the moment, because of the Subatex....but she says that her Dr prescribed her Valium......and Xanax.......( What physical symptoms will she display if only using Subatex...... at the moment she suffers from constipation, tiredness and drowsy usually in the mornings..............and then insominia at night. I need help kind people. |

LongKanh- You should be able to call a pharmisist and ask what the side fxs are for this drug. Probably there are others on this site who can answer your question though perhaps they will be along soon

| Thanks for your Help
Many thanks for your advise and the links........last night I pleaded with the Pharmacist to provide me with the dispensing brochure in the package......now I have an idea of what affetcs this medication will manifest in her.... I guess my dear girl and I have a long road to walk to recovery........but at least she is willing to be strong and committed to removing the 'devil; from her life.......all contact with old pususaive associates is in place........and being chaperoned by me on Doctor and Pharmacist visits.........she is even contemplating having Naltexone implants later on when her condition stabilises. Thanks again....Splendra |

LK- Don'tr forget your recovery is a separate matter than your daughters.... Seek out some alanon or naranon meetings for yourself. Also read the "power post and The stickies" in the "friends and families" forum here on this site. Take care of you ya hear?

Ahh, I just realized that Subatex is the new name for what used to be Buprenex. That was the name of it years ago when I used it for detox from heroin. I actually detoxed with it numerous times and suffered no serious side effects. I was a bit drowsy but much less than from the heroin. The insomnia is quite normal, a usual side effect of opiate withdrawl. Do you know if your daughter was prescribed anything else along with the Subatex? Aside from Valium? I don't know why a doctor who is trying to detox someone would give another addictive medication. But what do I know? I'm not a doctor, though I played one in real life. I was given Buprenex in addition to a Catapres patch (blood pressure, and helped with leg cramps), Librium (anti-anxiety, very mild) and something else that I can't remember the name of (tricyclic anti-depressant, helped with sleep). The Librium didn't get me messed up and while on the Buprnex, I couldn't feel the effects of heroin. I'm not sure how Subatex is administered now. Lozenge or intramuscular? I don't know if I've helped any but as far as detoxs go, this one is pretty good. I agree with the other poster that you should do some things to take care of yourself. Good luck to you and wish you well! amy

| I am going to make some appointments with doctors this week to try to get on the Subutox program. I've heard that for opiate addicts, it really can save lives. I am trying to be opptimistic, but am afraid that all the doctors available will already have their maximum amount of paitents. They are only allowed to treat 30 patients at a time with Subutox. I know that I am just very nervous that I won't get the chance to try the treatment. I really want this week to be a new beginning for me. I want to finally say goodbye to these stupid pills. I can't afford inpatient, and I've tried CT and it's out of the question for me. Please pray that I can get an appt. with a Sub. Doc. soon. I don't want to have to wait weeks or even worse be turned away. Thanks to all that pray it works out for me. I'm scared. I'm also really worried that because I take 4-5 xanbars at night....that this may be a factor in not being able to be treated with Subutox. Does anyone know if you will get turned away if you are on Benzo's in addition to Opiates? Thank you! xxoo, ElaineMarie

In the patient information I received when I started Suboxone (same active ingredient as subutex), it stated very clearly that any benzo's are a big no-no in combination with suboxone. I think the most important thing, Elaine, is to be honest with your doctor about all the drugs you are taking. If you are addicted to xanax as well as opiates, your doctor needs to know that. I am sure you won't be rejected. Just keep trying doctors until you find one who can treat you. And the sooner you make an appointment, the sooner you will be able to get started on your detox and recovery. I"ve never taken benzo's but I have heard that it can be very hard to detox from a benzo addiction. I am worried for you, and hope that you can find the medical help you need! I've used suboxone to successfully detox from vicodin. Longkanh, I also had the symptoms you describe, the constipation and morning tiredness. I found that if I took my last dose of sub before 6 PM, I was able to sleep much better. Also, most of my side effects improved dramatically when I reduced my sub dose. Ashley |

| To all who responded
Many thanks to you all who have offered advise and help and support. It is now on 17 days for my daughter on the Subatex, and things are going along slowly and surely......a willing commitment to get well. As a parent it is a very hard thing to understand and 'look in' as to what these poor souls endure and have to confront. Coping is the biggest hurdle, as this episode has pushed my own recovery back, as I recently had a serious breakdown from the delayed and supressed traumas of serving as a young soldier in Vietnam 32 years ago. Thanks for all your wisdom, care and wishes. And my well wishes go with you all too. I will stay in touch and give you progress. |
