Not long ago I heard of a rehab in my area & I was concidering going there. Later a really good friend of mine had told me that they know of someone that has been in that rehab center, and that the staff there had very sevierly mentally abused this person. So obviously I won't go there now. f**k those kinds of 'rehabs' that torture people. They're F*cking lucky that I'm not posting the name of their rehab center all over the net .hey, let the truth be out there... peace, alqaedagirl. |

I am wondering if this friend of yours drinks or uses with you? Sometimes those who drink and use with us, are not our best supporters when it comes to getting clean and sober. Especially if your getting sober and clean is making them take a good look at their own drinking and using. Its also been my experience that if I have questions regarding anyone or anywhere, its best to find out for myself what its really all about, rather than rely on second hand information. Why not call this rehab or go there with a list of questions that you would like to have answered, and get the facts right from the rehab first. I remember when I was desperate and wanting to stop drinking. More than a few friends of mine (they drank with me) told me everything that they knew about AA meetings and how I should stay away from those AA meetings at all cost. I am happy to share with you that not only was the information they gave me completely false about what AA is, but they had no idea what AA was about, they had never ever been to an AA meeting. They were going on information that was given to them, by people who had never ever been to an AA meeting. Why not get the genuine information first hand from the rehab, and then you can make an "informed" decision. Take care, Patsy

I agree with Patsy, you should check it out for yourself. When I was using for a while about 1 1/2 - 2 years before I got clean I met this guy and we hung and out and did alot of drugs together with his friends. His girlfriend was in a rehab. He told me terrible things about this rehab. Well when I got clean that is the rehab I ended up going to, not knowing at the time it was the same one, I put that together after a few months there. Anyway, it was nothing like he said it was. It was not run by some horrible old alkie that did not know what he was doing. Everyone wasn't having sex and getting high all day. We were not locked away from everyone else in some house not allowed to have visitors or family, I could go on and on. My point being, I went to this "horrible" rehab and by the grace of God I celebrated 9 years sober 2 weeks ago. So find things out for yourself before forming opinions. And definatley check a place out before you go yourself.

I just wanted to say that when I said that there is a certain rehab in my area that is abusing people or has abused someone, I heard this from a very credible source, and no Patsy, this person does not use drugs. (Not that it would make a difference anyway.) peace, alqaedagirl. |

Hearing things second hand, no matter how credible you believe the source, is still hearing from someone who's experience could be completely different from your own. Its also been my experience that if someone is using, then there is a reason for what they say about people, places and things regarding sobriety. The difference inmho is very important, its one of getting the information first hand, right from the horses mouth. Then and only then can one make an informed decision. I do commitments at detoxes and rehabs, and some addicts and alkies honestly believe that getting up at 6 am is being abused. Some think that required AA meetings at detox or rehab is abusive. I am not saying that the rehab that you are talking about is not abusive or hasn't abused the patients, I don't know, and in all honesty, neither do you. Get whatever information that you want and need first hand, no matter where you decide to go to rehab..... its always in our own best interest to get first hand information and be well informed. Looped communication is often incorrect, and its not healthy for anyone to base such an important life changing decision on hearsay. Patsy
