Honestly I think cocain is a do it once addicted for life drug. You may not detox like opiates or alchohol. But I know anytime I see coke it makes me want it. Anytime I thought I was getting some I would become excited. It changes your brain in a way that you really want it especially when it is around you.

Hello and welcome to SoberRecovery! I had a three year cocaine gig. Every day. A gram, two eight balls, whatever I could get. Up my nose. I stopped cold, one day to the next. Replaced it with alcohol and other stuff. That was 14 years ago. Never believed I was an addict until last year. Denial is a wiley beast. Are you in denial? |

Not sure about denial, just concerned about addiction, I may never know? The thought of it in front of me is not appealing, yet it is not in front of me! Does that make any sense?

Solace - I've never done Cocaine. However, just like any other substance, if you choose to do it again, I think you've answered your own question. And that's whether you do it because you want to, or need to. Doesn't matter. Keep your head up and nose clean, and take care of yourself. Bookie12 |

Solace: It took me many years to realize that I was an addict. For me, using was just a way of life. It wasn't until I stopped, got my head clear, and began to take a good look at my using habits that I was able to see that I had been an addict since I was 14 years old!! No one can tell you when, or if, you cross that line. Only you know. But........ if you are questioning it at this point, you may want to take a harder look. cj |

Hey Solace; I thought that I was an opiate addict only because I had withdrawal when I didn't use, then got clean from opiates and started drinking more alcohol but could stop without incident, but always went back to it, then I realized I am an alcoholic and have been since I picked up my first drink at age 12. Then I tried Cocaine, and I LOVED it, that first time was about a year ago. Recently detoxing again from opiates, I decided to try some cocaine to help me detox. Bad idea. I spend $80 I didn't have, waited for 2 hours in a dark driveway just to get the stuff then stuffed it all up my nose in no time. YUCK! I was way too excited about it. I am an addict, an addict of all substances that can be addicting. So that is how I answered my own question. Am I a coke addict, am I an alcoholic, am I a junkie? I am an addict, period. Please take care and if you aren't craving, then thank god, and stay away from anyone associated with drugs, as it WILL ruin your life. Take care.Jazpoppy

hi I'm Ed an alcoholic/addict you know it took me a while to realize that I was addicted to cocaine... I used to look at other ppl and think geez I'm not as messed up as that guy, if I ever get like that I would stop, but then I usually liked to hang out with ppl that were worst than me just so that I could say I'm not like that guy, but now that think about it. I actually was like those ppl I didnt wanted to become. I kept those lies for a couple of years. other lies I used to tell to myself were that after I binge on coke and got all freaked out was that I told myself, it wasnt all that bad. and I belived all this lies man. how couldnt it be all that bad when freaked out, all paranoid. thinking ppl were comming to get me and stuff like that and now that I'm in recovery I look back at thing I had done... I really do think I became an addict long time ago with alcohol and from there just replaced a drug for another. until I couldnt handle it anymore, and was beaten spiritually, phsycally, emotionally... I think you really know if your an addict or not... most ppl that are not addict dont spend days thinking if they are addicted or not... hope I helped a bit, think I wrote to much. Ed |

hi solace a good way to tell if youre an addict is do you/did you use more than you had planned? once you start, can you stop? have you lost anything, material or not, since you started this habit?

'Our reaction to drugs is what makes us addicts, not how much we use.' Basic Text, page 5. There are those who say, myself included, that drugs are just another symptom of the disease of addiction. I had come to realize through the process of my fourth step that I was an addict many years before the drugs. My first recognizable addict behaviors that I can recall began when I was around 4 or 5 years old. Many are born with addict tendencies, people like me cross an invisible line at one point and all bets are off until we either die or find recovery - in which case the disease is arrested a day at a time. It is a daily reprive, this gift called recovery. 'You who are on the road, must have a code that you can live by. And so, become yourself, because the past, is just a good-bye.' ![]() Stepping Through Life...
