Wow! Scarier when there are faces and viewable history. I've seen all the stats but not so up-close.

Exactly. That's why I posted this.

It's very sad how a lot of these people died from alcohol and drugs, or comitted suicide while on them.

Yup, and after well-planned treatments by others. The other side is of course the success stories. Controversial approach for sure.

Wow, thats pretty scary. I used to watch that show and always think I wasn't as bad as any of them... Fast forward a few years and I definitely could have been on that show. Makes me value my sobriety even more seeing how dangerous addiction is.

Thanks! I watched every episode 3 times when it was on Netflix a few years back. That show really helped me a lot. I think of 'Bret' quite often.

Forographia :-)

Thanks so , so much for posting this . I always watched this & I vividly remember Janet , the crying hot mess.

I tried so much to give up alcohol after that episode as I imagined myself to look like that crying , pathetic mess. It was an eye opener to say the least.

Great link xxxx

So sad...I always get super emotional when I watch that show, and have watched it many times when I've been detoxing. It's so sad to hear that so many of them have passed away

It's shocking to me how these people would agree to put all their BS up on television. I was ashamed enough that close family and using friends knew, let alone the entire world!

...while in treatment last spring the figures of 13% success rate vs 25% substance related death within the next 5 years was based on hard cold facts gathered by the staff
i made maybe 6 or 7 friendships of varying degrees while there
myself added means 2 of that group are going to die

sobering...

I actually spoke to one of the guys who passed via an online board. The link is not working for me at the moment but he was the DJ who went by Dr. T. He straightened out and was supposed to graduate college but then committed suicide right before graduation. I thought "Oh my God, WHY??" So sad that any of them died. My son was in rehab 2 years ago. There are 3 so far that he KNOWS OF who have passed. No one ever thinks it will happen to them. Thanks for posting this thread.

Wowisnow that is an eye opening statistic. Really hits home, I have been clean for around 3 weeks now but knowing I am around twice as likely to die from overdose as succeed with sobriety. If anything will keep my guard up and keep me from thinking one slip is ok it's that stat. Thanks for posting.
