| 100% clean?
hey, i have been using heroin for 7 years. I have been through every scenario associated with heroin use 100 times over. I started when i was 17 and fell in love with it. I used hard for 4 years did the quick fix detox thing when the bottom fell out, that didn't work. I was using again within a month. The next time around it was severe, i couldn't imagine reaching these new all time lows. The next logical step was methadone which worked, it kept me clean for two years, until last may on my birthday. I had been clean from methadone for about an hour. Unfortunately and fortunately i was arrested trying to street score and before i had a chance to use i was in the slammer. Got bail? While i was awaiting trial i started using very hard. I got off on a technicality(phew) But i was fed up with the lifestyle. I went back on methadone to be safe but i was avoiding the inevitable, I was using while on methadone, i seeked help. I went to Suboxone and have been on it for 10 months it has worked better than methadone for me only a few slips.I have been clean from heroin for three months Now the point. I dont want to be dependent on anything. I am sick of being controlled by controlled substances, giving a large portion of my money to my doctor and the pharmacy. I cant stand it, recovery is BIG business, and i dont recieve a general feeling of comfort and understanding from methadone clinics and suboxone script writers. I want out. I am a little nervous about the withdrawals from suboxone and if anyone has any feedback i am grateful. I am tapering my last day will be may 3rd. What should i do to insure that i am successful. Thanx |

Hi! I have been on suboxone twice, but only for two weeks or less to detox off hydrocodone. I have talked to many others who have been on suboxone for longer periods. They have told me that it is important to do a slow taper, if possible, and that there are definitely some physical withdrawal symptoms during and after the taper. They are not as severe as those from methadone and are nothing like a heroin cold turkey. This is just based on what they have told me, I'm not an expert or doctor. But I have heard that you can expect some insomnia, sneezing, fatigue, low moods. If you are interested in reading more, I can give you a site where there is more info about getting off suboxone. That said, congratulations for getting your life back! It sounds like you have come a long way. I wish you the best. Ashley |

eddie and ashley said it best. stay close to meetings, help lines, and friends. dont knock the docs all the time either. just pay attention, stay healthy, and get to a meeting. WHATEVER you do - dont think, dont use, get to a meeting. Life on the other end of that tunnel is WAY better! trust me, but you have to walk there yourself, just not alone. good luck

Sounds like you have the desire to go the distance. Meetings help, the steps bring about the changes that allow us to arrest addiction. Hold on a minute at a time if necessary and you can become 100% clean. |

We were searching for answer when we reached out and found Narcotics Anonymous. We came to our first N.A. meeting in defeat and know what to expect. After sitting in a meeting, or several meetings, we begin to feel that people cared and were willing to help. Although our minds told us we would never make it, the people in the fellowship gave us hope by insisting we could recover. We found that no matter what our past thoughts or action were, others had felt and done the same. Surrounded by Fellow Addicts, we realized that we were not alone. Recovery is what happens in our meetings; each of our lives is at stake. We found that by putting recovery first, the Program works. Each one teach one. Timebuster

yep- asking for help here is a good start- one addict talking to another addict was the only way i could do this- and for me, those addicts were/are in the rooms of NA- a lot of clean time on your side! mackat |
