| How much trouble am I in?
41 days clean today, and I owe allot of it to all of you and your wonderful support. Today may be a different story. I am in allot of pain today. I am flared up with a migraine and very close to taking one vico to help ease my pain. I already took Advil and its not working. How much trouble would I be in if I took one for tnite? is taking one to get past the pain considered a relapse? Honestly speaking I am really hurting right now and need relief, I need to know, will I be in trouble? P.S. I dont know what they did with these boards but all my past post are gone and I had to reregister my username. please help! |

Roma, there was a hardware crash. Lots of posts gone. As for your question, if vicos are what brought you here in the first place, I'd think twice. Migraines are hell, but beatable I think. I remember you from before the crash, but I can't remember any particulars. I'm sorry. I hope others come along soon. Have you tried a cold cloth? Just hang on o.k. DD |

Hi Roma, I'm a fellow migraine-sufferer and a recovering alcoholic and I do sometimes use prescribed codeine for migraines - maybe once every two months. I, too do not remember what you were addicted to, but it will have to be a choice you make yourself. My migraines will last for 48 hours if I don't use medication and I have made my peace with my decision. Let me know how you're doing. Love, Anna |

Hey, Roma! Good to hear from you. What kind of "trouble" are you talking about? Opiates were my drug/s of choice and I personally would be really wary of taking any outside of a hospital or office setting. I'm afraid it would be like before when ONE was never enough! What did you ever decide about going to NA? A sponsor would be a good person to discuss this issue with, that's why I ask. I was gonna say, "Talk to your sponsor about it," but I remembered you probably don't have one. The way I see it for ME is this. If I took a medication as prescribed, for the purpose it was prescribed, and it was prescribed for me, I wouldn't feel I had relapsed...BUT...I am deathly afraid of what I would do and how I would feel and that it might LEAD to a relapse. Does that make sense? They told us in pharmacy school that the way opiates work is "the pain is there, I just don't care!" In other words, they really just get you high. I've had one migraine in my life and it was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. BUT, it passed and I didn't use narcotics to get through it. There are better meds that specifically help migraines. Have you been on any of those? Anyway, I'm sure you've long since made your decision. I hope you are feeling better today! Love, Eddie

Roma... It's terrific to see you back and I remember the Vicodin issue for you very well. You are really doing well and it is amazing that you kept this up, despite your pain. I cannot tell you what to do with respect to taking a Vicodin, but I know that you are on a tightrope right now. Maybe as Dan suggested, a cool compress on your head may work. Staying in a dark room has helped me with the few migraines I have. If you can go to sleep, that would be good. This is a difficult time for you right now. The pain is real, I know. Hang in, and I can only suggest what others here have suggested. It will pass.

roma, to let you know, there are medications to prevent the migraines from ever coming. the one i take has no side effects. that's if you are getting them frequently. otherwise, there are other medications-not pain relivers-you can take specifically for the migraine. talk with your dr. i wish you the best of luck. love maria |
