| do I have to tell my husband?
Do I have to tell this wonderful (clueless) man that I am addicted to pain killers? He won't leave me, he will be supportive, but he'll be so hurt and he will be so mad. Is... it possible to recover without ever telling him? |

no - it's not, as part of the process is learning how to be honest with everyone around us. If he's as loving as you claim, he'll be there every step of the way for your recovery. But you do need to tell him that you need to go to a Narcotics Anonymous meeting, while your there, talk with another woman in recovery and compare notes. You'd be surprised. sure, he might be hurt, he might be a little mad, but in the end he'll want to be there for you as he's always wanted to be. If not, then he wasn't there for you anyway, and the program will help you deal with that too. trust in God, go to a meeting if you want to delay, but go to a meeting and talk with another addict. good luck and God Bless - pad

Hi there, I haven't posted much, although I am here everyday, reading, listening and learning. This has been wonderful for me, even though no one knows it. I really wanted to put my 2 cents in on this post, for what it's worth. My DOC was also painkillers, I haven't used now for 55 days, and it has not been easy to say the least, my husband was also not at all aware of my use, I worked shift work, and he works long hours, but because of my 12 hour shift work, and constantly changing shifts, basically no one knew, everyone just brushed off all my side effects to the drugs as the fact that I was over worked and very stressed, I also have 4 kids. Anyway, to get to the point, I needed my husband to know, as well as others that were close to me, including unfortunately my children, as well as some of my other family members. a very difficult thing to do, although it is do able, but having the support of others is I feel extremely important, and he may be very hurt, but it is really important that you do tell him. If for no other reason, I had some very uncomfortable withdrawl symptoms, that I just couldn't pass off as anything else. So, I just thought I would let you know another pain killer addicts thoughts. I wish you the very best, hope all goes well for you, I also needed to enlist the help of a doctor, and a drug counselor, I tried on my own, it never worked. Good luck, hope all works out well for you, these drugs get such a strong hold on us addicts, even when we didn't set out to become addicted.
