| Sleeping pills?
I feel like I'm clogging up this forum. Sorry. My sleeping habits are so out of whack right now because of my cocaine addiction. I've been in the program almost 3 weeks, and I've been taking Simply Sleep sleeping pills to go to bed at night. Is this ok? I keep telling myself this is not forever, but with 3 little kids I NEED sleep. TIA! |

It's hard to give advice on these things.I'm not that familiar with sleeping pills.I do know that when I went off coke and all that,I didn't sleep for weeks, and I wound up a real mess. Not sleeping for an extended time wreaks serious havoc on the brain. I would go careful on it.If the problem persists or becomes worse, see a doctor and be honest about what you are going through.Of course,I think getting a checkup is a good idea for anyone going through the process of getting clean. Keep posting, you aren't clogging anything up..lol. phoenix |

Thanks Phoenix! I keep telling myself it's just for the time being. I have to get up with my babies bright and early, and if I'm up all night long staring at the ceiling fan I'm not a very happy person. At least I wake up feeling alive, you know? |

Hi Muse, What kind of sleeping pills are you taking? You wouldn't want to start with another addiction just getting clean. I would go see your doctor and be honest about what is going on. I did when I was new, and my doc put me on ambien which is a non-addictive sleeping pill.

There is no substitute for a good night's sleep. The quality of your sleep at night can affect your physical and mental health, as well as your behavior and performance the next day. If you're suffering from insomnia, ask your doctor about AMBIEN (zolpidem tartrate), the most prescribed sleep medication in the United States. AMBIEN has been studied extensively. In fact, since its introduction, many studies and surveys have been conducted, involving tens of thousands of people. So doctors know how it works, and whether it can help treat a patient's particular sleep problem. It is possible, however, that your sleeplessness results from another medical condition. And AMBIEN, like all sleep aids, has side effects as well as benefits. To see if AMBIEN is right for you, discuss your particular situation with your doctor. Important safety information: In general, sleep agents should be taken for no more than 7 to 10 days, and re-evaluation is recommended if they are taken for more than 2 to 3 weeks. The most commonly observed side effects in controlled clinical trials were drowsiness (2%), dizziness (1%), and diarrhea (1%). While taking AMBIEN, do not use alcohol. AMBIEN is classified as a Schedule IV substance by government regulation. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about this. People who abuse prescription sleep aids may become dependent. When you first start taking AMBIEN, use extreme care while doing anything that requires complete alertness until you know how you will react to this medication. For more information, see important product information.

I went on the web for the information I found about AMBIEN. It is a controlled substance and many people I know are addicted to it. I'm not at all saying that any one who takes it is popping pills since this medicine used to not be controlled at one point. I'm just saying that folks like us need to be keenly aware of medicines like this.
