| Do you watch "Celeb Rehab w/ D. Drew" and other Rehab Programs, and if so...
Do you find them helpful? If you watch Celebrity Rehab (the current or former season) is there a patient that you identify with ? I've been watching this season and I relate to Sean Young, we have different DOC's, but I feel like I can understand her. (Nothing to do with her acting career, just the raw emotions and how she deals with her stressers)... and a little bit with Rachael Yukitah (sp?) last season, that she was always chasing love, falling in love within days because she wanted to be wanted/needed so badly.

I love Celebrity Rehab. I started a thread about it a while back. I'm probably Jeremy London with a little bit of Jason Davis. I have the seemingly-functional but really an addiction-hiding-liar part of Jeremy London with the daddy-acceptance issues of Jason Davis. |

In the beginning, yes. Now, not so much. I do occasionally watch some like Addicted on Netflix. It's a reminder.

I don't know what this says about my mental state (lol) but I used to watch Intervention, Addicted and Celeb Rehab WHILE I was snorting Oxy. I was actually watching Intervention while taking my very last hit. And yup, I still watch them after becoming sober. I feel better knowing I'm not alone in my struggles and I can relate to people on those shows. I don't know if they actually help in my recovery at all though, I think it is just an "entertainment that I can relate to" sort of thing.

I never could have watched Intervention while ripped. I would have been too afraid of ruining my high! Especially because it seems like virtually everyone on the show smokes weed, or their problem is so severe with hard drugs that they don't even bother showing them smoking weed. Then again, I might have found it comforting that other people's problems were worse than mine. Regardless, I watch it at least a couple times a week these days, some of those episodes are hard to watch.

I have so many issues with this show! Well both Celeb Rehab and Intervention. Do the patients actually get anything out of a 3-week stay where they are treated like celebrities? I don't remember the one girl's name who wouldn't get out of bed without her orange juice being delivered to her room. Come on, really? (That's just one of the gripes I have about the show.) There is so much fighting for camera time and intentional drama it's ridiculous. I just don't see anyone working on getting better. I get the allure of the show. Dr. Drew is a hottie, and seems to really care about his patients. But he really has too much going on. The Intervention show is getting old. How can these people not know an intervention is coming? I don't know. Maybe it's just me. | |

I use to watch intervention to watch them get high because I couldnt. Thats sick, but thats where my head was. Now I cant watch certain intervention episodes if they pertain to my drug of choice because I will relapse. Other shows dont bother me like that if they dont show them using. I just like to see that I am not the only train wreck in the world. I dont mean that in a bad, way. I actually saw Bai Ling and how she felt like they were trying to get her hooked on psych meds. I felt the same way when they tried putting me on meds. I am trying to get off depending on substances and here you are pushing your legal crap on me..LOL.

Wanted to chime in here with this. I don't watch the show "House" anymore, because he's always popping pills. I mean what's up with that? He might be a great doctor on this show, but I wouldn't want him for my personal doctor. I'm 152 days off the opiates. I really feel for these ppl on these shows. Nine out of ten will be back using after their treatment run, according to the show's last comment. I don't need to watch these shows to remind me of the world I'm trying to avoid. A show to watch is "Hoarders" if you want to see ppl with a true problem. It's amazing to see how much stuff these ppl can stuff into their houses. TOD

Shows, movies, celebs and an imporpotional focus on the DOC's instead of the causes. Death, jails, institutions and missery come from DOC's and I can't support any kind of glamorizing it's use and abuse. Celebs are different, ediots go see their movies to fund their nonsense an then go celebrate their humility....for money??? We are a celeb/star crazed culture and I don't like it at all. The Gospel of Mark suggests that if you want to live as Christ did we shouldnt want for the way of the world. The only thing I watch on TV is sports. Do you think my kids look to those buffoons as roll models? Not! I say make your recovery as easy as possible. Dont think that by watching shows with drugs, having friend with drugs or being a bartender, and being able to be in it and resist using makes you tough or tested. Being tough is acknowledging it's probably not best for you to go sit with the devil and try to hang on. Can you tell that I'm not a fan of those that glamorize something so critical. There was a post about a drunk driver that killed a family on SR not too long ago. I'll try to find it.

I can't say that the show Intervention has glamorized drugs in any way (neither has Celeb rehab or Addicted for that matter). While I tend to think that Celeb rehab is a pretty pointless show that was created to make some people very wealthy, I don't think Dr. Drew or anyone there is glorifying drugs. In fact, it really opens ones eyes as to the effects of drugs on a successful career... that not even those with money are immune to their power. Intervention is a completely bummer most the time. These are people truly addicted, people whose lives have been ripped apart and spit out the other side of society due to drug use. Half the time, they don't even make it through sobriety, they relapse. I like watching it because its a very stark reminder of where I could end up if I don't stop. Watching those shows and hanging out with people who use are two very different things, for me. One is downright dangerous, and the other is a constant reminder of where I've been and/or where I might be if I don't keep this addiction at the forefront of my thoughts. And since I'm not a "believer", the god stuff has very little relevance to me. I'm not scared of "sitting with the devil" simply because I do not believe he (it?) exists. We're a very complex and diverse culture, one size does not fit all. I do appreciate hearing your perspective though, it's good for me to keep an open mind and listen to how things affect other people. |

My sitting with the Devil, was a reference that strength is not being able to put ourself in user situations and abstain so you can prove how strong you are. I poorly conveyed that the real strength is admitting weakness here and not puttin yourself in those old scenarios. I think putting some o this stuff on MTV and E! Are in itself glamorizing it. Especially when wealthy celeb are able to have a few more chances than the rest of us. There are other reasons, I just don't like the message of these shows.
