i'm nervous

This is my first time posting... I'm brand new, and scared out of my mind. I've made the decison that I want to quit smoking up, and though its not physically addictive... i'm floored at how to stop doing it. It's numbed me and gotten me through so much, but its causing me so much more pain and trouble than I ever thought it would.

I fessed up and told my counselor about it, and she gave me the number for N.A. I called, but I haven't gone to any meetings or anything. I'm kind of scared to, I'm young and female and some of the areas where the meetings are, are quite intimidating. Any advice? I really need some help.

Hi Rae and welcome

I understand your fears.When I got clean I had moved to an area where I knew no one and was completely isolated.I was terrified of people and meetings.One thing that helped was calling the NA hotline or phone service.They can usually find someone to go to a meeting with you.You can meet other women and talk to them,and find some good meetings to go to.You'll get to know people and then you'll feel more comfortable.It worked for me.

Meanwhile we have some really good forums here,and you'll find a lot of support.Keep coming back...k?

Thanks for your encouragement. I think I will call the NA line and try to actually talk to someone, because I am not having any progress on my own.
