| Klonpoin Addiction?
Hello everyone I usually post in the alcohol section but decided it's better here. I have tried to stop taking my 2mg of Klonopin & cannot. I don't abuse them expect after binges. I call them my "hangover helpers" they keep me from shaking ect... My doctor think it's just better for me to stay on them but I don't know. I usually run out of them 1 week early then must switch to Ativan. The Ativan is not as strong & I suffer horribly. Help! How can I wean off these monsters. tib |

((((tib))) Good to see you. It would be best to ask your doctor for a weaning schedule. I believe those are both benzos and tricky to detox/wean off. Please take care of yourself. I'm glad you posted here! Love, Lenina |

Hi and welcome. Those are benzos and benzos are particularly hard to detox off of and from what I understand, more dangerous to quit than heroin. It shouldn't be done without medical supervision. My husband detoxed off benzos in the treatment center. He was told that post acute withdrawals could last as long as 2 years. Your doctor gave them to you for a reason. Follow his advice and quit using them as hangover helpers and you won't run out. You other choice is tell your doctor that you need help and get HIS advice for tapering. Please be careful!

(((Tib))) withdrawing from benzos without medical attention can lead to seizures...please seek competent medical advice. My stepsister was addicted to Klonopin and couldn't get into a detox center, right away, but they worked out a very slow taper until they could get her in. She had to stay longer than expected, but she has other health issues. Benzos and alcohol can be a pretty deadly combination. Hugs and prayers! Amy

was on 13mg at one time......the withdrawal was not fun. The best thing I ever did (concenring benzos) was to go on Valium for weaning. It made weaning off that stuff, 100 times easier. I did the Valium thing after getting down to 7 mg's................. In retrospect,I should have done it from the start. It must be done slow though. |

Dude, Klonipine and all the rest, xanax, ativan etc. are extremely addictive. Don't fool yourself into thinking they aren't. Seek medical attention and be honest with the doctor. That's the only way I can see to really get off of them. Why did he write an Rx for those anyway? I assume it 2mg at least 3 X a day?

Benzo addiction is one of the most difficult addictions to overcome. Withdrawal can precipitate seizures very easily as well as the other typical signs/symptoms of acute withdrawal. You need to withdraw under the guidance of a doctor, as you are on quite a bit of benzos. Your doc can best recommend a weaning schedule so you don't end up in the hospital. However, before that withdrawal happens, you need to really want it. If you're truly not ready, it's not going to happen. And tib, what are you doing these days about your drinking problem? I hope and pray your working on that too. ![]() Anyway - Good luck. Ivan
