Alcohol + Painkillers/Sleeping Pills
Hi everyone. Happy to have been a part of this forum for several months. I have drunk alcohol rather too much for 16 years (26-42) and occasionally end my night with a quantity (up to 6) of one or more pain or sleeping pills. Often lately after the hangover's worn off I have dull pain in my liver?kidney?stomach? that lasts for 1-3 days and affects my wellbeing and sleep. Could this be from booze, pills or the combination. I have tried abstinence many times. inc. AA, but prefer to lead a life with light and infrequent consumption (although this may be impossible). I don't wish to get liver disease or kidney damage or anything else as I was raised very healthy and in fact didn't touch booze until my mid-20s. Also, my GP is not helpful and prefers to avoid any discussion of substance abuse. Thankyou so much for your kind feedback. Xo Miles Cheifetz, Sydney.
Are you interested in quitting now?
Many of us tried cutting back, changing routines, etc.
In my case, none of those things worked, I always ended up in the same boat.
Could you tell the doctor not to prescribe anything to you anymore?
Since I didn't want to persue illegal street contacts for pain meds, that did the trick for me.
I had terrible pain in my stomach, and intestines, and even had a CT scan.
I often thought I was having an appendicitis, or worse.
After I got off opiates, it went away.
The best way to a healthy life is to not drink more than one or two drinks a few times a week. That would be impossible for me. So I stopped altogether.
