| easy opiate detox or till gonna crash?
I am on my fourth at home detox - have been using vicodin es for past five years on/off up to 20 pills a day. my last two were thursday morning and my last detox wasn't as bad as the former ones, so, should(could?) I assume that this one will be easy as I'm on my third day and have had everything BUT the horrible sweats and restless legs. I hope to be clean by this Tuesday as I start my new job. Any comments an this anyone?????? thx -

Hi Davida, Firstly welcome to the boards, u are in a great place here, and its ful of support , experience, strength and hope.. I found much motivation and support here myself.. I wish to also say how i understand the pain ur in right now. I am now 3 weeks and 1 day clean and sober. I myself did a cold turkey withdrawl off heroin, and believe me it was painful. I did this as i didnt wanna see my doctor for more pills, i was tired of it. However, i never tell anyone to do what i did. I think the individual has to decide him/herself, because only they can judge how bad it is and if they require assistance. And if they do they must go get it.. I personally can only talk of my latest experience. I went from january to june clean and sober. Before going off on a binge of heroin and crack for 8 weeks. Mainly heroin.. I suffered awful pains and aches , however it wasnt as bad as before, due to it only being 8 weeks, but still, it was bad. And anyone who says withdrawl is easy has obviously not been through it. Personally my main pains, - diarrea, sweats, cramps etc.. went within about 6 days or maybe 7 max. However during my second week i suffered still with leg aches, and stomach pains (slightly). It was no where near as bad as the first week, but bad enough to make me realise i needed tme off work. Only you can judge this yourself Davida. But what i must say is, dont put too much pressure on yourself. Your recovery must come first, because without ur recovery you will not have a future.. Dont feel pressured because its a new job also. I know it may seem like you must create a wonderful first impression, but im sure this new employer would rather see u well , fit and working, than stumbling around, and tired. Also if you put too much pressure on urself, u may end up taking various other tablets to try reduce the pain and such, and might eventually set urself up for a relapse .. I myself was extremely tired in the 2nd week and had to take things easy.. Im now on sick for 4 weeks, as i arranged with my doctor, to help me come to terms with my disease and begin the steps etc... But as ive been told so many tmes in the roms "We are each responsible for our own recover" "your recovery is your own" . And i guess in this case what im trying to say is, none of us can make the decision for you, we can but advise.. And i do hope u are well enough to go to ur new job, but dont put pressure or stress on urself if u really feel u cant go in. Im sure ur new employer would understand if u explained u had a virus or flu or smething.. Basicaly giving u a few extra days to get rid of the pains.. This decision is something you must decide, depending how u feel I just hope i have helped somehow in what i have said... Feel free to contact me if u need anything or to talk Yours Reven |
