Adderall

Anyone have any experiences with this or any other ADD medication/amphetemine? I've had a love/hate relationship with addy since we met in the summer of 2004. I didn't even know what it was.. a friends brother came home wasted one night and gave me his whole script, along with a few xanax, and told me to use for studying or sell them. I don't know why I took them.. I had never taken anything before that- didn't even drink. I guess I was curious.. curious and naive. At first I could control myself.. that bottle of 45 lasted me months, and I shared. Now I could go through that in 2 weeks and would never dream of sharing. Problem? I think so...

My oldest AD overdosed on Adderal (not prescribed to her either). She lost custody of her kids over that one. I could write a novel on her, but suffice it to say she's still active in her addictions, and will be the first to tell you she doesn't have a problem.

My DOC is opiates. But I can relate to addictive behavior, and the control your DOC has over your life. Yes, you are addicted! You might or might not be dependent; if you are, getting off can be a medical issue that requires help from a medical professional. For your addiction, you probably need help from a structured program. I stayed clean for a long time, but I don't think I could have done that without the intensive treatment I had; several 30 day detoxes, an 18 month live-in program, AA meetings.

You've admitted you have a problem, that's a great first step. Now for a plan of action. Don't you want your life back?

Yes, I do!

What a powerful way to end your message-- I absolutely want my life back! Not that it was perfect before, but it was more stable, more manageable, less shady, etc. Adderall is so hard to come by so I do go for long periods of time without it, but when I get it, I can't control myself. I take way too much, isolate myself while trying to act normal, don't feel any emotions... it's time I made the decision not to do it anymore, even if it is available. It's totally psychological with me, I'm not physically dependent on it. Is it possible to quit on your own with the support of this community/loved ones? I don't think I need inpatient rehab, do you??

It is possible.. I have been on Opiates for 6 years and I only go to NA meetings. I am just lucky I guess. I surely know I am not that strong. I slipped up once though doing it on my own. Then I started going to NA meetings and all seems a little calmer now..
You can do it on your own but if you find yourself slipping way to much then you will need to go to the next step and have some support. Like family and friends that do not use etc..
You have made the decision and that is half the battle!

Addies was something I fooled with whenever I could. My daughter had a scrip when she was a kid. She was taken off them eventually, but when I went back into active addiction those were one of the things I swallowed up. I wasn't addicted to them...just anything and everything placed in front of me or I could get a hold of was fair game. My addiction is drugs - period - but being a speed freak (since I was a dealer of speed, too once upon a time) addies were naturally a "good" find for me.

I can't say whether you need a detox/rehab or not. I didn't go through one, but I have been able to stay clean now for just over 4 months through working an NA program. I just had to want it bad enough. Sometimes my f*cked up head tells me I've overreacted and I don't really need the program. However - without it I could not stay clean. I've done the long periods of abstinence. My last relapse made me see I can't do "clean" alone.

I can certainly relate to your comments on taking too much, isolating and showing no emotion. I've done those for so long I'm still trying to learn how to be human again. I'm slowly getting there, though. Find an NA meeting. There are many in FL from what I understand.

Very glad you're here...
