I have a high intensity addiction to adderall. I use it for ADHD. Since I have been prescribed adderall IR, I have had 3 life changing events that triggered anxiety, panic disorder and depression. More to the point, Everyday for about 8 months I have been abusing adderall. At first it was just a few tablets here and there. Now I buy it from people because my family keeps a close watch on my medicine. I get very angry when people I know use up my "hookup" for them. On a average day basis I take at the least 150 MG a day of tablets. 2 days ago I took 320 mg of IR in 24 hours. I tryed to keep myself from taking them but my mind kept telling me to do it and that one more wouldnt hurt. Well now I know I still could die, but im suffering from restlessness still from two nights ago. today I took 150 mg IR. I was having INTENSE hallucinations, chest pains, Aggresiveness and I slept for 2 hours, woke up and now I can feel the adderall. I want to quit so bad, is there any dietary supplements I could take for DOPAMINE and other vitamins for the nuerotransmitters. I feel like one day im going to die from this, I want to let it go. please help me |

I used to be where you are a couple years ago before I got into heroin. The amounts you are taking are very dangerous and amphetamines are very hard on your body and hard on your heart. Can you get into a detox/rehab program? Coming off of adderall isn't as bad as coming off of opiates - you will be depressed and you will basically eat and sleep for a week. There is no point in trying to wean off them slowly - from what you wrote I don't believe you have the control to do that. Chest pain and intense hallucinations like that could be symptoms of an overdose so you are really in need of treatment soon.

Hey addy....you can stop the insanity....I am glad you are reaching out for help...We usually are not hiding stuff from our families as well as we think and I thnk it would show a trmmendous amount of courage on your part to come clean about what you have been doing...I mean it sounds like you still have people who CARE right....I had to loose every person I cared about..drove them all away from me eventually ...but while you still have support ...take it...I am glad you came here and posted.....I WISH there were vitamins and minerals that would cure this thing...addiction but it just does not work that way.. Please let us know how you are doing..this is a good place to speak the truth!!! love north |

Yeah, I used to love them little buggers myself ... addies, dexies, ritalyn ... all those adhd meds are just like pharmaceutical meth (amphetamine). On a positive note, it's pretty hard to od and die from amphetamines unless you already have an existing heart condition, but that is not to say you won't start acting and feeling VERY strangely if you take too much, especially since you end up not getting enough sleep or nutrients. I used to stay up for days on end on amphetamines, and remember well the hallucinations (esp. the auditory ones, hearing voices, etc) that come along with the lack of sleep. But just cause you aren't likely to keel over and die from them doesn't mean they're not dangerous, cause they are. They are VERY hard on your body and mind, and they will shorten your life big time if you abuse them for too long. Not to mention the kinda crazy stuff you might do while you're strung out on 'em. Sounds like getting yourself into a detox/rehab program is in order my friend. Good luck, and keep posting |

| So you do have ADHD? I'm surprised that you are having this reaction to it. From what I know about adderall it is the people without ADHD that get the high from it. Anyway, what is an average dose just so we can get an ideae of what you should be taking? What are you prescribed and how often? Isn't it a once a day med? Regardless of any of that, if you are having those types of reactions, you HAVE TO let you doctor know and do something about it. Anything that causes you to feel like you're on speed can lead to death for so many reasons. Please get help. Talk to your parents no matter how hard it is. I would think thye have an idea something is going on if they are monitoring your meds. Please just do something. I don't know how to taper off safely so I can't offer any advice. maybe someone will come along who knows. In the meantime BE CAREFUL!

| I wish there was--if there was this world would be a very happy place! You cannot try to treat this yourself with using other pills even if there were vitamins to take. This is serious--as someone else said, when it gets to the point of chest pains, that is very serious. If that happens again, I would highly suggest you go to the ER--as much as you wouldn't want to, you may need to do it to save your life.

Yes, sunflower, they are supposed to be a one or maybe two a day med, and a single dose of adderall is typically a 10 or 20 mg capsule. So ... do the maths here. This person is not talking about taking anything remotely in the range of a normal prescribed daily dose. IOW, the amounts the OP is talking about here would wire ANYone right out to the gills, adhd or no. Well, maybe not a hardcore meth head, but short of that ... yeah. 320mg is a sh*t ton of adderall ... if i took that much in a day, I know I would not be able to eat a single bite of food, and I'd be up for 3 nights straight, talking to myself and hallucinating my friggin ass off by the end of it...

Wow--I really had no idea it could get that bad with that. Are all ADHD meds like that? I know some have come out in the last few years that are supposed to be less abuseable (is that a word??). Ritalin I'm sure is still a pill of choice. I didn't know that hallucinations, etc could happen--thank god with opiates when we took a zillion times the recommended dosages we don't have psychotic features along with it! At least I didn't--then again maybe if they had been I would've quit sooner!! I've done x a few times, and if I did start hallucinating, I hated it! Same reason I never tripped--I hate not being in control. At least with opiates I was always in control of my mind, though my mind just told me to take more!

I had no idea either. I take Concerta and I just don't take them some days. I went a week without last week becaue I forgot my appt. They don't make me feel any different. If anything a bit focused but that's it. No side effect by cold turkey. I didn't think there were withdrawls from what my pharmacy said.

Yeah, I was hardcore addicted to adderall although I only got up to 120 mg a day. That is still A LOT though. I had hallucinations from not sleeping for a few days. I remember there was a black figure with fire-like red eyes with a crowbar in his hands in my tapestry. I passed out after that for about 24 hours straight. I weighed about 90 pounds, my skin was all dry and cracking. That was the first attempt at rehab. God I loved those evil little pills. 320 mg though...I can't even fathom.

I tried to quit cold turkey once before and it didn't work, the fatigue was severe and i felt groggy and down. So i began this routine... This worked for me: 1-Began tapering down on adderall (lowering dosage every two days). 2-Take B+ vitamin complex /w iron in the morning with breakfast 3-Run for 40 minutes on treadmill ( any exercise will help and create a natural high) 4-Occasionally i would try some yoga breathing (helps relax body and mind) Yoga Breathing Exercises - Pranayama 5-Try not to look back, but forward and surround yourself with positive people. 6-Class/work/socialize<----Important (tackle anxiety issues by doing productive things during the day, less guilt when reality comes in to check) 7-Take 1 Melatonin (all natural/herbal sleep supplement) two hours before sleep - This helped me fall into a good sleep and feel more energized the next day. After getting in this routine i felt better, looked better and it became my addiction( i didn't feel right without exercising etc etc)....probably not the best for all people but i'd like to point out that the body needs to be nurtured back to health... Starving your body of food and being sleep deprived while taking stimulants is very damaging to your heart. feel free to PM me whenever if you need any advice, i didn't take as much as you...but i know the horrible feeling. Good luck |
