Get some gatorade......crackers...sweets, protein etc.....when he was kickin at home he used to take klonopin to sleep and help relax, and make him less anxious, but u need a Rx for that. Take care!!! Denise |

About five days was the turning point for me...which means you're over half way there. Hang on. It will get better - unless you pick up and have to start all over again. For me, each time I detoxed, it got worse. You try a meeting? Peace & Love, Sugah

short term benzo use can be very beneficial for heroin addicts trying to ease cold turkey withdrawal. As for becomming cross addicted?? I highly doubt it, most people who shoot heroin wont become addicted to a weak downer like xanax, klonopin etc. the high just isnt anywhere near as enjoyable to dope addicts for them to keep wanting more of it. it does however help greatly with the insomnia and intense anxiousness that comes in early withdrawal. As for how long the withdrawal will last? depends on your habit. Last time i was shooitng dope i was up to about 2 bundles a day IV use (20 bags) for about 9 to 12 months straight. The withdrawal was real intense on day 2 through day 5. Then each day after day 5 i felt a little better than the day before. by day 11 i was feeling Ok and kinda normal. Withdrawal is always terrible and hard to get through jrad but the mind has a wonderful ability to erase painful memories // experiences. (thats why you dont remember it being that bad). Hope you keep staying on the right path this time man, you had 2years clean at one point so you know that its possible and you can get back to that point, just gotta keep showin up. Good luck to you and I hope you keep posting man ~~ Stay safe, -- Scotty

yes i highly doubt somebody who shoots heroin will become addicted to xanax or any other benzo after being addicted to heroin, esp being that they are only using the benzo for a matter of 5 days or so during the peak of opiate withdrawal. Didnt you just drink alcohol a few days ago emmer??? and now your here telling me that i am giving wrong//bad advice with over 10 months clean of all drugs//alcohol?? pfffty good luck with that. lol

come on guys, please don't do this, let focus on the original poster. You are both ttwo GREAT people with some great advice. Just different views and experiences. Kiss and make up, lol. Just kidding about that, but really please don't down each other, it really hurts, especially when someone is already down, don't kick them in the head. I think the two of you are great, just please don't try to hurt each other, much love, Becky

5-7 days, tops, before you start feeling significantly better my friend. Kicking dope is brutal, but hang in there, man, you can do it! You'll get back to where you were with a bunch of clean time ... in no time. It just FEELS like it's taking forever right now, I SOOOO remember that feeling. Hang tough, keep posting, and ... have you thought about hitting some NA or AA-type meetings? Now would be a good time to start going. ANYways, we're here for ya man! We've damn near all been there, done that ![]() P.S. I gotta weigh in here on the side of Emmer's argument. Maybe it's unlikely that someone shooting dope will get addicted to benzos just using them for a few days during w/d's, but to me, it ain't worth the risk. If you're in detox/rehab, that's one thing. At least that way, you are unlikely to have a chance to continue on the benzo train once the bad w/d's are over, as you're theoretically stuck in lockdown for another few weeks at least. But out there 'on your own', I don't think it's that great an idea to be messing with benzo's when you're trying to get clean. I ain't bashing people who DO, I'm just saying it IS risky stuff ... Clonidine, neurontin, and a little ambien to sleep, that was my script, and it helped a WHOLE lot, without being addictive. |

Aw D Boy and Emmer, please don't be mad. We're all just trying to help. My own personal experience with benzos is I took them, klonopin, long term for anxiety, ,.5 - 1 mg for years. When I went into detox they said it was low enough to stop (I couldn't be there to detox off opiates if I was on benzos, well, duh, guess you all knew that, lol) and as of that day, done. Never was addicted, never thought about it, have been in people's bathrooms' with a big ol bottle of ativan sitting there...nothing. Having said that, I did say that's my personal experience, so fooling around with benzos for any addict is certainly not a good idea. I'll just go with my orginal thought. Medical help? |

After those 5 days when I ran out of the xanax, like you ccgirl, I felt no need to go out and get anymore xanax , not a slight urge at all and since then have been in places with people who have bottles of the stuff just laying around (not under a watchful eye) and haven't even wanted to take any. I have spoken to a lot of other dope addicts like myself who have had the same experiences with it which is why I posted what I did to the OP. I just didn't think he should be deterred from using benzos for a short while if it helps him stay off dope (his actual addiction problem). I guess there are some people who have went and switched addictions and I should have posted what I said was my experience with the substances and for that I am sorry. Oh and ladytenn you are a very intelligent girl

That was a great post Ex D Boy, and showed a lot of maturity, it takes a lot to say you are sorry for something. Thank you so much for the compliment, (I take it that it wasnt sarcasm, LOL, just kidding) anyway, you are always around here and have always sounded pretty upbeat and smart yourself. Emmer is a close pal of mine, I hated to see him hurt, Like I said, you guys are both GREAT!! Now where did the original poster go?? love you guys Becky

| Wish u felt better!
I dont know how long the pain will last but i do know that my ex was addicted to opiates and when he started to get sober he started feeling pretty good after a month..but he was on Wellbutrin and took sleeping pills to get a decent rest at night. But i sympathize with the not remembering the after effects being so bad...hadnt done E for 3 months before last night and feel pretty emotionally unstable right now, i go and do it with this guy about every month or so for the last 15 months, dont think he knows how much i care about him but it's hard to detach fom him every time.. having a hard time finding the right guy again after my ex of 5 years and this new guy is my one drug outlet that i cant seem to shake... always fun at the time but have to live with the withdrawals from him for a while after every time and it sucks!!! Just want to be held and feel something deeper. Sorry im rambling ... hope you feel better soon! I know as time goes by its easy to forget about the pain afterwards and just remember how fun it is at the time. But that's why i am trying to stop altogether, its just that i dont have much excitement in my life as before when i lived in san diego with my ex and need to get my fix somehow still. Just hang in there, i know the emotions and pain you're going through will get easier everyday |
