thanks Lynn.......your last post brings me full circle to the whole cooking thing.......see Hank runs a lean mean 140ish, always has, always will.....has like 0.2356 percent body fat and i swear to god i can tell when he's down to the last 20 or so available calories in his system, cuz he starts to get "squirrelly" - if you could listen to all the brain synapses firing off like the 4th of July it would sound like a bug zapper on a hot august night......zzzt, zzzt, zzzzt.......thoughts are going a million miles an hour and he can't catch on to a one of 'em....stick some food in him and wah lah he settles right down and returns to earth. so the more good healthy food we shovel in him (junk food just makes it worse, but add in now he's crabby too) at regular intervals the more he stabilizes.

me? i just like to cook and enjoy the hell out of food.

First off, Anvil, I live on cereal. The crappier kind the better, lol.

CYHM, I was one of the "off topic" posters. I'm a yankee and I think I brought up redneck first. People need to chill. Sometimes threads meander some. Makes it fun. Don't feel bad. I think you're lovely.

here's my typical "in the life of ADD" day.........

I start to do the dishes. but in the middle of them I wonder if I made the beds. so I go to check but then I see laundry that needs to be done....but on the way to the laundry room there's toys to be picked up - while picking them up I think the room would look better being switched around.....but then I've forgotten to finish the dishes.......

and nothing ever gets done. very annoying sometimes

Yep that's how I control it with my kids. Hank sounds a lot like Lee, Lean 130-140ish, no body fat to speak of We deal with it much the same way, eating right makes all the difference. There has been a lot of research done pointing towards food allergies contributing to childhood ADD/ADHD and mine boys confirm it. I had to medicate one of them or the school was going to call child protection on me lol... he was a night mare, his poor teacher had a nervous break down, for real. It wasn't his fault but he asked to be put into a different class because he thought it would be better for her. (He was 5yrs) That proves he didn't want to get into so much trouble, poor little guy, just had no impulse control. I don't disagree with medicating the disorder but a lot ADD children stay ADD and the medicine rarely works for ever, so I hate to see so many kids on it. Learning to deal with it and over come obstacles is a much better way, and that's how we do it during the summer, no meds, just a good diet. NEVER JUNK FOOD. Sad to be a kid and not get chocolate, but he's ok with it, we've explained to him why it's not good for him. He told his teacher once "chocolate makes me get into trouble, it's good for some kids but not me." I was so proud of him!

Krista, I don't think it works as well with adults, but for children learning impulse control it's an absolute no no! It can't hurt us to eat right either.
Oh you'll love this, my son that is on medication, I had to leave his meds at school, because I'd forget to give it to him. Poor kid with an ADD parent. But thats what I mean by learn to over come it, I took a bottle to school for when I forgot!

CC, Thanx. I've decided to just stay away from his threads. And he's fine with the meandering when he wants to. Oh well!

Oh no no, not that kind of junk food!! Cookies are good junk food in moderation, I mean bad junk food like fast food, candy bars, cheetos, kool-aid, soda.... We avoid chocolate and strawberries(flavorings) all together with the kids. But cookies, chips n dips even some times pizza are all ok around here. Ha I have a 13yr I couldn't take chips and dips out of the equation if I wanted too!

I hear ya with the kid issues - I limit my 5yr old son too. He has autism and ADD (so I wait and eat the candies when he's in bed - lolol)

ok, that was mean. but you should see the two of us trying to have a conversation - my poor 16 yr. old daughter just sits there and shakes her head. She says we exhaust her just listening to us.

You kill me anvil,

Krista we do that to lol, been caught a few times with a mouthful! My son was diagnosed ADD and Asperger syndrome (it's a form of or has a connection to Autism) But as he gets older I am starting to think they were wrong. He's the one that has never been medicated. He's an A student and is doing very well at controlling him self, he's 13 and I couldn't ask for a better kid.

Gotta run guys, I really enjoyed spending the day with ya'll!

they're gonna kick me off this thread soon, i just know it, for being a thread hog......however.....i just wanted to report that from the moment i made the decision today to TAKE the next couple days OFF and sent out the announcement, finished up the tasks on my desk, etc and raced out of the building as fast as humanly possible....i feel so dang relieved and relaxed! putzing around the house, got the dishes DONE (ok, so there are two small plastic thingies soaking, doesn't count...), got home clothes on, doors open, dinner is planned and will be a snap (kind of a mixed grill....kielbasa, hot italian sausage, some zatarain's rice, hoagie rolls, sliced onions....oh and a couple deli salads....northwest potato and tortellini something), all the stuff i normally do but without that after work/work tomorrow pressure.......i did me a good thing!

Anvil - be careful with the plastic thingies that are soaking...you KNOW how Bucky is with plastic...or maybe it's only when it's in HIS lake.

Thanks for the ADD education. Sonny (one of the kids I work with) would NOT do what I kept asking him to do...he finally said "sorry, Amy, ADD is kicking in". I instantly thought of Anvil, telling Hank "focus, focus" and told them (Sonny and Lisa, his gf, and the one who cussed me out but is SO much better) and said "how is it us ex-crackheads have to be the voices of reason?

But, now I understand more about keeping Sonny fed. He's lean, hyper as heck (so maybe he has the ADHD?) but seems to calm down when he gets some food in his stomach. Great, now I'm going to be a mother hen and make sure he's eating! The good part is, though, that all 3 of us are getting along GREAT...better than before the blowup, discussing things before they get out of hand....just respecting each other in general.

So work was slow, then we got slammed...after everyone on 2nd shift went home. Money was good, but I made only $10 less the night before and worked a lot less hard...sheez, am I EVER satisfied?!?!

I feel like I've been run over by a truck, so took a couple of dad's anti-inflammatories that seem to work better for me than Motrin.

Dad brought home our favorite bbq wings last night...I guess as a way to apologize for trying to kill us with the bug bomb.

All right...Jane, Kari - time to check in

cc - I LOVE cereal. I actually like the frosted shredded wheat (I know there has to still be something healthy about it, despite the frosting). Dad got the cheap brand, once, and it was really, really bad.

Hugs and prayers!

Amy

my motto has always been....if it ain't fun, it ain't fun........i'll be danged if i was gonna fight and claw my way into recovery and then be miserable! the whole point (IMHO) is to life life to the fullest, with joy and laughter............beats the heck out of the nights barricaded in the house drooling over a plate of dope. Anvil~ Good for you. Every one needs a little R&R from time to time.
I remember when your signature read if it ain't fun... and it went through my mind often when I was trying to quit dope, it wasn't fun, and I don't know if I would have figured out it wasn't fun for a while if it were not for seeing your signature and ask my self "Is this fun?" So I miss the old signature, but the new signature suits your personality so well!
do they really kick you off fot thread hogging??

CC~ Don't be so hard on your self, Windys thread was literally full of 'stinky' comments, I didn't see your comment but I'm sure it didn't smell any worse than the others. (No offense windy)

Amy~ Sounds like a Hallmark card in the making. I can see it now:
"Nothing says I'm sorry for trying to kill you like BBQ chicken wings"

Windysan~ Sorry your threads got busted. I'll try to find you a little maid. I noticed yesterday how quickly your thread start to get stinky.

YAY!! A new thread!! And ((windy's)) here too!! Had to chuckle at the "& Co." part...like, now I have my own company?? LOL!!
Good job ((CC))!!

((anvil)) "Home clothes"...LOL!! I love it! That would be my good ol' Nike shorts and a Tshirt...sometimes a skiff dress I wear that hubby hates...says makes me look like a tent! LOL!! Oh and the bra is off as soon as I walk in the door!! God, I hate bras!!!!

I think I am going to go insane with all the noise here lately!! The neighbors are getting a new roof and the roofers are nailing all day...kids playing and screaming in the yard across from me and another neighbor must be leaving her dogs out all day while she is at work cause they bark nonstop!! GRrrRR!
I wait ALL winter to be able to open my windows and enjoy the fresh air but this noise is driving me nuts!
I wanted to lay out, read and maybe swim today but the roofer guys can look right down on my deck and pool! Double GRrRRRRR!!!

((Krista)) Yep, that's me in a nutshell! I was never really diagnosed with ADD but I have many of the symptoms. I have alot of anxiety issues too! Sometimes I think my anxiety issues are due to the ADD and not being able to stay focused.

Well, been a loonnngg day of doing nothing but laundry and folding and now it's time to start dinner...Oh joy!
Take care ((all))
((HUGS))

ok, what is left to clean around here? gutters maybe? boy howdy have i been a busy, productive girl.........all the wood surfaces have been wiped down with murphys wood oil soap....the alcove, which is the only place we allow ourselves to smoke in the house, has been scrubbed top to bottom, literally including the ceiling.....all windows in the entry way....got cute new curtains for the entry way windows, took the other ones down, washed em, replaced the uber attractive sheet strung gracefully over the window in the entry way bath with one of the "old" and now clean curtains......dishes done.....baked cookies......laundry laundry laundry.......mopped the floor in the master bath.......weeded out some old summer tops in my closet that i hang onto but will never wear....sprtized the tub with bleach....swept the downstairs.....scrubbed the walls and ceiling of the entry bath..........lets see, is there a cleaning product i haven't used?????

i know to some that doesn't sound like ideal day off plans....but it sure works for me!!!! really healing.....getting my exterior house in order helps keep my interior house in order. being busy and productive with my hands.....sort of my zen thing. i contemplated doing some yardwork, spotted bees, figured they need the yard AS IS for now. plus bucky is a MAJOR help when it comes to anything that moves, like a rake, or a wheelbarrow, hedge trimmers.....ok so those are lame excuses but dangit they're all i have!!! i did get a cute new entry mat for the front door ($7 something at walmart) that says Wipe Your Paws....swept the porch and walkway.....so that's kind of like outdoor stuff....

pulled some burger out of the freezer, NO idea what the hell i plan to do with that. options are endless i guess........
