Hi Katie, and welcome to SR. I don't know what every one else does for fun, but I kinda think just not getting high is pretty cool in it's self. But then getting high was really never about fun for me. You are right SR is a very supportive place, no matter where you are in your search for recovery. |

Hi Katie and welcome to Sober Recovery. Am a grateful recovering addict call Ivan. Am from Toms River NJ, but I wouldn’t brag about..lol What do I do for fun…I get up in the morning and take a deep breath of our so called NJ air and grateful to be alive. How do I stay clean…With the foundation of a 12step program. A god of my understanding…and the love of other clean addicts. Hope to get to know you better. Ivan

I wallowed like a wild boar in mud in Northern NJ for 24 years before I made it back to Brooklyn, USA. One thing I found to be a terrific sober activity was a particular relationship I had with a nice Jersey girl who lived in New Brunswick, near Rutgers University. She had big hair back then, but now she is bald. Oh, we went bowling quite a bit, and she beat me 87% of the time. Ksos |

I think a lot of us had big hair in the '80s. I had big hair and I was living in Europe at that time, hehe. It was cute though. At least I thought it was. I also used to wear those Madonna-esque large lace hair ribbons tied in it. And the big sticky-out bangs!!! Hi Katie, I love reading, painting, drawing fantasy creatures like fairies, writing fantasy, and real-life stories, quilting, any kind of crafting, cuddling with my beautiful yellow lab, spending time with my wonderful adult daughter, my fantastic high school-age son, and with my parents and sibs. I'm only 55 days clean, tapering off suboxyn now, go to NA and AA several times a week, read the literature, started working the steps, come on here for more fellowship and help, and see an addictionologist. So I'm getting lots of help. Hope you're feeling as good as I am today. kj |

Hey Katie, my first joke was going to be which exit? But, we lived in Jersey for a while (Salem) so I guess I can't do that anymore. Seriously, I lived in Wilmington, DE also; loved that whole area. You are a bunch of friendly people. (I'm from Boston so I know the difference, lol) Welcome and congratulations! |

For sober fun I read, I'll go through a novel easily on a weekend. On weekends I'll stay in bed until 3pm and just read the day away, I love it, it's the perfect way for me to unwind. Sometimes I'll just chat away, thanks to my new job I spend quite a bit of time with new people so I just chat with them about random stuff. My PS3 is a good distraction also, GTA4 is awsome! I also play some online PC games, let me know if you want some good free mmorpg's or action shooters (need to be careful though they are kinda addictive!). I find cooking relaxing, yes it actually helps me to relax, making a new dish, making mess and cleaning it up. I guess it's my personal kind of therapy. Sometimes I'll just go for a drive, no music, alone, it really helps to clear my head.
