My husband has been clean since Oct. 26, 2007. He has NO libido. When will this return?

I would suggest he see a doctor. Opiate use usually decreases libido; after a time off them it should return.

Yes I have heard what cc has said about it decreasing but it didn't for me. I always thought actual opium was a sex enhancement drug and its effects were in the opiates. Then again, drugs effect everyone differently. I know right now being off of opiates made my libido go down, down, DOWN.

Are you entirely sure that he is clean? If you are, then ask a doctor opinion.

Tired; your lack of libido could be from pregnancy also.

Well that too! HAHA But I remember before pregnancy when I attempted a recovery, my libido was SHOT.

Tired; after the baby, once your hormones get back into whack, have it checked out. It could be a hormone deficiency or something simple.

Me too. Sorry I am hijacking. Then again, this could go along with her husband to some degree.

I will return in time. Everyone is different and while some come back "hard" no pun intended while others takes months. Obviously the amount you were using as well the time period can be a major factor.

He used Lortabs for about 5 years then it was Fentanyl for about 2 years. Now he is taken Welbutrin for depression. His physician says it should come back.

Yeah, I believe Wellbutrin is one of the anti depressants that doesn't cause sexual side effects. I believe its full effects take from 4 - 6 weeks.

I have been off opiates for six months, and I have no drive, and it sucks big time.I keep waiting, it's barely there.

The way I've always understood it, at least for men, is like this:

At FIRST opiate use enhances sexual performance (you last and last) and is sort of neutral or negative to the libido.

LATER, your libido is blown to bits and while you might be able to perform like superman the drive to do so just isn't there.

When you QUIT and especially during withdrawals you suddenly get erections like a teenage boy, and instead of being able to have sex for hours you can measure it with a 60 second stopwatch.

Much later, when you are good and clean and over withdrawals, things go back to normal (whatever normal is to you).

Put all this together... the theory that he might not really be clean is not out of the question.

If it's a disease, cure thyself. If it's a choice, make the right one.
