| Ok. Can't win for losing or lose for winning whatever.
So I have terrible migraines. I told my OB to prescribe me something NON narcotic and non addictive (with no codeine). He gave me fioricet. I looked it up and it has butalbital (which is ADDICTIVE). Anyone taken this before? |

My stepsister takes it for migraines. My stepmom, who LOVES opiate pain medicines, will not take fioricet - she says it's because it doesn't help her pain...I think it's because she doesn't get the high feeling. I have taken it in the past for headaches, and it helped and did not give me the buzz that other pain pills do. I'm guessing it does have the potential to be addictive, but I think it's a much lower risk than other meds. This is just my experience....not medical advice Just remember, please take as prescribed. It has tylenol in it, so I wouldn't take anything else that might include tylenol. Hope you get to feeling better! Hugs and prayers! Amy

Sorry, no experience here but if you think you will abuse it or will have to take amounts that will get you addicted, it's probably best not to take. I'd follow up with a call to the doctor and ask "what's up with this?" Hope you find some relief for your migraines.

If your doc feels this is safe for you to take during pregnancy, do you have someone who can hold them for you? And has he deemed Relpax and Imitrex harmful to use? Those drugs only work on migraines, do not produce a high, and to my knowledge, aren't prone to abuse. Just a thought. If I were in your shoes, I'd be asking about them. Peace & Love, Sugah

Thanks everyone. I am going to an appt. today at 3 pm so I will talk to him about it. My husband can hold them for me but I can tell you, they don't produce any sort of high feeling for me. I asked about the imitrex and the OB said no on that one. I used to take that before. I have only taken one of these fiorcet's so far, no high feelings. I researched more and there are fiorcet's with the codeine in them, but this isn't one of them. Thanks for the replies |

Tired, I took it for years, and NEVER abused it; Amy's right, it never gave me that high feeling. My 10 year old daughter gets migraines now and she takes it so, yes, while I would voice my concerns, you have to take care of your health. If you don't feel entirely comfortable, you can get the doctor to dispense them, a very few at a time.

thing to remember to is that just BECAUSE something has addictive properties, doesn't mean we as addicts are automatically gonna get hooked on it. it is a VERY wise thing to be cautious tho.......better safe than sorry and all that! chances are if it doesn't DO anything for ya (no woo hoo's!) it will just do what it's supposed to and you'll feel better!!!!

Snort on the poopies. Another reason not to get addicted. When you're done with the whole pregnancy thing, I highly recommend Relpax. It's similar to Imitrex only better. A neurologist at Mass General suggested them to me. One pill does it; no high, just functionin. My girlfriend takes Maxalt and swears by them also. |
