| Restoring myself to sanity | A question about opiate withdrawels
I have a question. My AH is trying to get off opiats. I'm not sure when he quit using but now he is going though terrible withdrawels. Stomach pains, depression and things I guess I don't understand. My question is this, Is there anything he can do to ease the withdrawels or does he just suffer through it and how long do they normaly last? He is working a 12 step program and we are seeing a therapist again in two weeks. He says his mind is wanting to be sober but his body is just withdrawing from the pills. AH keeps talking about getting on methadone and suboxone (sp?) as an outpatiant. Does anyone have any experiance with this and if so could you give me an idea on how much it costs and what it entails. Our therapist did not want to go that route when we saw him last week, he suggested the meetings instead. Thanks to anyone who can give me some kind of insight. |

There isn't much to ease the withdrawals, but to keep busy. I found "trying" to keep busy doing things helped with the withdrawals. I forced myself to do things really because I was so miserable. Also at night, hot showers on the legs will help a little with the restless legs.
