There is Hope no matter how long you have been hooked

I wanted to share my brother's story. He is 53 years old. 5 years older than me.

He started smoking pot when he was 15 and he smoked it everyday for 36 years. He also did everything imaginable, PCP in his 20's, coke in his 30's, mainlined heroin and dilaudid in his 20's, methamphetamine in his 40's. He seems to have done it all. My family gave up on him. He lost his wife, kids, everything.

2 years ago he quit everything (except cigarettes). I talked with him today and he says that he rarely thinks about it anymore. He had a heart attack a couple of years ago and I guess that scared him.

He does have some brain damage as he is incoherent sometimes when he talks but somehow he quit (w/o meetings, counselling or anything). I think that is very rare but he is a very unusual person. Never wanted anyone telling him what to do.

I am sharing this to let you know that no matter how long you have been on drugs or a loved one has been on drugs--DON'T GIVE UP.
