| how possible is it to get off 3 years of daily oxycodone without any other drugs?
have used 140 mg of either fast acting oxycodone or long release oxycodone daily for nearly 3 years. due to complications as seen in "unchartered waters" i need to get off the oxy without any other drug. feel there is not a cold day in hell's chance to do it but want to know if and how i would do it. i never abused the drug, only used for my chronic pain. any info along with your history of opiate use would be greatly appreciated. help.

I was in a hospital to detox, but refused all detox drugs except Immodium. Opiate detox is uncomfortable but typically not dangerous. Peace & Love, Sugah

When I quit using (for the third time) I went to my family doctor and told him that I had tried the Methadone clinic and it obviously didn't work, I tried subutex *suboxone* and relapsed again, but I told him this time I truly wanted to quit but didn't want anything addictive to help me take the edge off. He prescribed me with a blood pressure medication that honestly really helped. I still got sick as hell, but the physical withdrawls only last a few days, after that it is all mental and getting use to the normal body aches and pains of everyday life. The medicine really did take the edge off.

I abused painkillers for over two years and cocaine before that.I was clean in between for about eight months. It is so very hard to quit on your own, but people do it.I could not, however and I am in A suboxone treatment program.Been on it for five months and doing good.

I am 35 days without oxy's. There are a few ways to quit. You can go cold turkey and it is safe. Out of all the drugs out there opiotes are the safest to come off. You won't die but you will want to. Withdrawal peaks at 48 hours after you last hit. You can also taper down. Still feels like crap but for a longer time. To avoid severe withdrawal all you need is 20% of what you were taking.-eg-if you are taking 100mg's on one day the next day you can take 20% and avoid the really bad flu when your hair hurts. Another way is substitution. Something that you don't really like but that is still an opiote.like codeine. You can also go into hosoital and they give you a drug that takes out all the opiotes in a few hours. they also induce a coma so you don't feel the pain but I think that way is expensive. Like i said there are a few ways to do it. Only you know what is best for you. Dave |

Suboxone or not suboxone? It's like asking "pay now, or pay later?" Myself, I prefer to pay later. Especially with the Fed slashing interest rates.

I am now 4 days off of OC 480-500 mg a day. I am doing it cold turkey which is hard but I am starting to now feel better. My cat has also been a big help. This board is really good for help and support. I had the same idea about suboxone, it just puts off the inevitable; plus I did not want to trade dependencies. good luck to you and I hope this helps you in your decision!! |
