| unchartered water-how long before naltrexone lets go?
the mini dose of 1/10th of 1mg of naltrexone that i stopped taking 3.5 weeks ago is still blocking my much needed oxycodone pain medicine. does anyone know how long before the naltrexone will stop blocking the opiate. it has been 27 days since i stopped the naltrexone and it is still blocking my much needed opiate and making me very sick. (i took the mini dose of naltrexone for 3 weeks) does the fact that i have continually had to take the oxycodone make the naltrexone more tenacious? do you think i will have to totally get off oxycodone to get out of this mess or will the naltrexone" let go"?????? sorry, no drs. have given me a clue because there is no documentation on what my dr. frankenstein did to me. please any info appreciated so very much.

From what my experience as a drug and alcohol worker for 8 years...naltrexone stays in the system for 32 hours. After that u should b fine. Try to get hold f some Urals (or whatever they r called over ther) and flush ur kidneys |

| To me, that sounds absolutely impossible. Is it possible that what you consider "blocking" is really "tolerance"? Or possibly that whatever pain you are taking oxycodone to help with is increasing? Or--third idea--you've acquired some other health problem that is as of yet undiagnosed?

wish i could say it was just tolerance but the nal is definitely blocking and causing mini withdrawal symptoms depending on the amount of oxy that i take. some of the oxy is apparantly getting through as i will get really worn out when the oxy is leaving my system and i do get a little relief when i take a new dose of oxy but it only helps a little and the shingle type nerve pains, agitation, nausea, weakness are prevalent, and if i take a full dose (40mg) it actually creates sciatica pain in legs and buttocks but only with the larger doses as well as way too much nausea. smaller doses of oxy create more of the shingle type pains and agitation and no matter what dose i take i am besiged by weakness to the point of collapsing if i exert myself. the agitation and cloudy head are way uncomfortable. also causes my nerves in left leg to twitch like mad. (had back surgery on left side of L5/S1 16 years ago.) hope i am making sense as i'm kind of zoned. it could always be the third idea but in view of how things have unfolded i would think not. if i only knew that this was going to go away at some near point i would wait it out but its been 27 days and its just there everyday. everyone tells me it should not be but i am stuck in reality. if only there was a blocker of the opiate blocker. sometimes i want to just take oxy like mad and push the blocker out but the pain and nausea are too frightening. so i try to take as little oxy as possible. thank you to all for your concern and info. i have never felt so alone or been so dissapointed in a doctor.

ok i have been doing a little more research on naltrexone. Please remember im not a doctor i just know a fair amount about drugs and how they interact with the body. First, why were you taking the oxy? You said chronic pain before. I ask this because I read about a recent trial study where micro doses, also called Low Dose Naltrexone are experimentally being used to treat immune system and autoimmune system diseases like HIV, Cancer, MS, and even Rheumatoid Arthritis. This low dose is comparable to the low dose you described, since naltrexone when used for general narcotic or alcoholic addiction is usually in 50mg doses. Next, If you havent taken it in 3-4 weeks i really doubt it is still blocking your receptors, the stuff has a half life of about 4 hours meaning its effectiveness is moot by the end of a day. I wish i could tell you why you are still haveing issuse, all i can tell you is get your but to a doctor, and not the one that gave you the naltrexone. |

Sounds to me that something else is bothering you other than the Naltrexone. I took it for 2 years. It took less than 2 days to get out of my system. If I were you, I would ask my doctor for a non-narcotic pain reliever. Oxy= Bad deal, my OP. |
