| My Addiction to Marijuana
Hello All, I lurked for about a month before taking the plunge and joining the forums. This is a great site. I have been trying to quit weed on and off for years. I am very serious about it this time and have create a marijuana addiction blog as a recovery tool. I am writing a daily journal to help me go through the process. I know that many on this board consider weed a relatively minor addiction in comparison to the Class A's, but it can still have brutal negative consequences. I am sober today, but smoked last night after putting myself in a compromising situation (on purpose to smoke). I will kick this thing. Peace, ThaNinja

Hey Ninja, I dont consider it less then any other addiction. I proved to my own satisfaction the saying that a drug is a drug is a drug. Weed was my most used drug over my 20 year "career". Weed was the first drug that I tried and failed and tried and failed to quit... Weed seriously did a number on my life. I watch friends and family struggle with their weeduse over and over.... Some circling the toilet. Its Sad. I can Relate. I did too... Look ninja, you can quit. You never have to get high, ever again. Have you been to any 12 step meetings? I've been hitting some marijuana anonymous meetings lately, and met good people recovering there... I never found any thing other then 12 steps that has worked for me. Bottom sucks, it was deep for me. I've gotten so much back over the last few years of being clean. More to come, i'm told. Have met so many real friends over the years in meetings. Its amazing. Check it out. |

I watched my son destroy his teenage years from smoking weed, which I could never understand that weed could be addictive cause I never got addicted to it, I could get high one day and not do it again for months but after seeing what my son went thru I see it can be addictive, he smoked weed on a daily basis from 12yrs old- 18 yrsold. And I think it did some damage to him, making him slower and he is a very intelligent boy.

I wish you all the best kicking this habbit, it's good that you've realised the effects that it is having upon you and others around you. I for one don't compare different drugs and class them as being "minor", weed is strong, it has a strong buzz, why else would people smoke it? And something that does effect you in such a way then there are bound to be health issues involved. I have no idea what the withdrawl symptoms are, but is it more of a habbit? For me drinking was a habbit I liked to drink and even though I craved having a drink I was able to contol it and just stop, sadly I just can't do the same with the current drug I'm having trouble with. If you can and I'm sure you have tried, just stop. Don't make a day or certain time, just stop now. Well all the best. |

Yeah weed IS addictive. Luckily a lot of people are coming around to realizing this. A drug really is a drug. I am sober on day 2 now! Woohoo. Working hard on my sobriety. I have spent a lot of time reading and reflecting.

Hey All.... Well Week 1 has been a positive experience. Yes I did smoke this week but I also found myself smoking in the exact same situations each time. I go to the pub and have a couple pints, walk outside, and the pipe is waiting. Next week is a no drinking, no smoking week. I think the beer changes my judgement and I am so used to the old habit / script it is harder to change when I have had a couple beers. I only drink socially, so I don't have a problem there. I finished up all of my first big article on my blog "Why I Quit Smoking Pot" is covers all a whole gamut of reasons for me to end this thing. I also feel really relieved emotionally to be able to discuss this stuff with you all and share my experience, thanks for listening, the advice, and the support. Have a great weekend. ThaNinja

Good News Folks, Despite a 5 day stretch of smoking daily, I have been sober for another 2 full days as of the end of today. I have cut back a huge amount from my original 5x a days smoking habit and am very happy with that! I have been blogging about my marijuana addiction recovery every day and have found this to be really useful to express my emotions and keep myself working towards this goal. Peace, ThaNinja

I slipped into my old patterns a bit in the last week. I am going cold turkey again today so that I can back on track. This is really turning into a lifestyle change rather than just a habit change.....lotsa work to be done!

Hey, Ninja -- I haven't followed closely, so I don't know the answer to this question: have you tried finding help through a 12 step program? It's the only plan for lifestyle change I've found that works for me. Peace & Love, Sugah
