| one less person in this world i cared about
Hi all, Im having a down day. One of my oldest friends was killed by addiction this past week. I wasnt able to go to the funeral, but heard that it was quite a party. Seriously, thats what they tell me. I guess its best i wasnt there. i went to a meeting today instead. Im pretty upset with addiction, I do not need any more friends dying to prove to me that addiction will kill me if i pick up the first one again. He was never an IV user when I hung with him. my using got worse over the years. So did his. Addiction is progressive. Its Fatal. I wish he would have found his way out of substance abuse, and into recovery. I'll miss you , Jay. i would go back and change almost anything to have you alive today, I'm sorry. |

I'm sorry too, Aa_vark, and my prayers go out for Jay and all who loved him. I too have lost people I love to addiction, some to the disease itself and some to the ultimate end of death. Each time it breaks my heart and each day I pray for the addict who still suffers. You can carry the legacy of recovery, Aa_vark, to those who need to hear it, all of it including the pain of losing those we love. Let that be your tribute to Jay and all those who have lost the battle, let that be the light of love that will see you through your dark days of sadness for your friend. Hugs

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I lost my best friend (she was like my sister since we were 13 years old) when I was 19, she has just turned 18 when she died. She died from a heroin/cocaine overdose and one of her other "friends" left her in her car to die. I was the only person who helped her parents and police figure out who was with her. I gave recorded statements and everything. The cop even told me (i remember so clearly) "You must be this only girls friend cause no one else wants to talk to us at all regarding her case". In turn her parents "thanked" me by not allowing me (or my family) to attend the wake or funeral.

I have also lost friends and acquaintances to addiction. 25 since I found recovery. Some I had taken to AA with me but they did not stay. I am sad to ssee Jay did not live to find the peace and joy of recovery. I am sooo sorry for your loss. ![]()
