Most doctors recommend that you don't drink while taking antidepressants. Also, sometimes when taking them, if mood swings start, she may have another issue, such as bipolar disorder. That is how they found out I had it. She really should see a doctor to be reevaluated.

I have been on Lexapro for years. My p-doc had no problem with social drinking. But I certainly did NOT have those kinds of mood swings. How long has she been on it? PS everybody's chemistry is unique to them, when it comes to reactions to drugs, pyshotropic ones maybe more than most.

It takes 6-8 weeks for those meds to work. And those 6 weeks are the hardest. Then at about 8 weeks it is fully stabilized in the system. So I would suggest that her disorder that she has been prescribed these for and really acting out...and at this point, drinking can't be helping that! If she makes a suicide threat call 911.

she's not seen a doc she just told one she works with what she thought she needed. We think she needs to see one and let the doctor decide what she needs.

Agreed!!!!! And then she would have to honest with them. Lexapro is for depression. You can google that for classic symptons. or you may be able to find it in the mental health forum stickies. I have severe depression. I am tempted to make a list of symptoms..but think it would come better from a source who is not talking just off the cuff. I have no idea how one would respond to Lexapro if they were taking it and not depressed. It does activate certain neurotransmitters...and can cause some vivid dreaming, in my for instance, so I guess it could activate all kinds of things in someone who did not need it.

LOL. umm...you may be right! Some people make suicide bluffs...but hey, that is not rational or well anyway...and sometimes they do succeed. I am ALWAYS for calling 911....it will automatically get them hospitalized for 48-72 hours. I have never in my life and I have known alot of druggies wanting lexapro. There's no buzz there. Sounds like she is self diagnosing and self medicating. I have made a few people really mad at me for the 911 call, but still.....today I would do it everytime, no matter who approves or doesnt'. And, of course you can't reason anyone into being well! roll eyes. I WISH that worked, would save me alot of $$ on meds! LOL
