A sponsor????

I have been going to NA for a couple of wks. And now it is time to find a sponsor. How do u ask? I am kind of shy like that! And I can't imagine going up to someone and saying, "hey, want to be my sponsor?" I know that some say no, cuz of personal reasons, or they already have one. Any ideas?


I am still doing ok. Another ? is. Today my baby's dad called me up and said I'll give you $70 if you give me a cap full of ur methadone. He is on methadone too, but always is out, cuz he takes his all in one or two days!! I've done that once, and realized how I felt, lol, and won't do it again! With not having ANY money and everything, I did it. Now I feel very very guilty!! I know that I won't get caught. But it will effect me tomorrow night, or whenever I take it. Everyone else says, that they can go without of methadone for a day, but I get sick and start going thru withdrawl. So do I start over for my days, like I have been clean since July 5.

Also, with everything else, since I started NA, and actually taking my anti-depressant, (I heard from the nurse that welbutrin has a energy kick in it, which I have definetly noticed), everything has been falling right together like it should!! It is really cool. I am starting to make relationships with ppl, and it is nice to talk to ppl that have gone thru the same thing as me.


I have the ct scan coming up next wk for my neck. Also, I have the byopsy aug 3rd, so it will be nice to get that out of the way. I hope the results come back okay and not cancerist. Usually, I would be very depressed, and feeling sorry for myself, but I actually feel happy!!! That is soooo cool!

Alycia, do you have phone numbers? Start calling the women on your list. When you find one you feel you click with, don't be afraid to ask. Like you said, they're a pretty honest bunch, and if they're overloaded with sponsees or feel like they don't have enough time in, they'll let you know. But one word of caution: don't ask someone just because you like them as a person. You're looking for someone who has worked the steps and has a sponsor herself. That was suggested to me, and it's worked out for quite some time now. And it's okay to ask, "Do you have a sponsor? Have you worked the steps?" before asking if someone will sponsor you. If they don't want to answer those questions, they're probably not someone who you would want to be your recovery guide, anyway.

You might ask the person who chairs the meeting if they know anyone who could be my sponser. Alycia, that's what i would do.

there is a web site "primary purpose group" that has speaker tapes you can put on ipod or listen on computer-but there is a guy named Scott L. from nashville hes a great speaker and gives some good advice on finding a sponser.

My advice..for what its worth is..Pray about it first..hope you are not offended at the suggestion. I am not religous but have found that there definitely IS somthing spiritual that works in the program...and if there is something that can help me untangle the confusion of addiction..COUNT ME IN..
Wow I am happy you are going to get a sponsor...it could really be a huge step forward in your recovery..Also i would not pick someone who is like a good friend...although your sponser may become a good friend...I like to keep my buddies separate.
I picked a woman who actually scared me she was so into her program...She is a STRONG INDEPENDANT woman and worked in construction here in alaska for 15 years as a carpentor. I chose her because I kept feeling that inside "nudge" after praying about it..and she is awesome..
I ams till too scared to call her but I will be ready soon...
Alycia you are such sweetie..giving your ex your meds is old behavior..next time he asks..tell him your sponsor says you can't do it..Sponsors are great for taking the rap when we need a reason to not participate in unhealthy stuff!!
By the way hun your kids are so beautiful and look so happy!!! You are a great little mama, I can see that!!

Not to worry you but be very careful with that wellbutrin stuff. I've heard back some dismaying reports that it's highly addictive and very hard to get off of.

Good luck with getting a sponser. I think you just go up to the moderator and strike up a conversation. I thought they asked you if you had a sponser if you did this, or commented casually on it, but I'm no expert.

It is part of the program. Just ask someone that you think has what you want, recovery. If they say no don't take it personally as they may too busy with their life or have other sponsees. Maybe when you share in your mtg. share that you need a sponsor. Just go for it bec the prog. works best w/ a sponsee Good luck
