Question welbutrin

Hey everyone! I was upped on my welbutrin to 300 mgs, I haven't been actually taking it but will start today to take it everyday. My ? is has anyone had any weird things happen when on this drug??? like weight gain? or anything? my ma said when she was on it, she started ticking, her shoulder would tick like. That scares me! Well, please if anyone else has had same experience, please tell me. And is there anymore safer anti-depressants? maybe zoloft?? I was on that for a while, but I didn't notice anything. Also, I have terrrible anxiety, and was wondering if there is anything that I can take or do instead of klonapin? I already have enough addictions and don't need another. Thanks for listening! Also, how come all the fonts, smilies and anything else like color is not working for me? I can't use anything on here for some reason!

Only thing I noticed was weight gain. Zoloft was my favorite of all the anti-depressants I was on (400mg) but once again there was a weight gain side effect. The only time i had "ticking" was when I was tapering on zoloft. It felt like electric shocks were going through my hands. God that was awful. Coming off zoloft was bad

I was on Welbutrin, and had panic attacks.
Welbutrin doesn't normally have the side effect of weight gain, or sexual side effects, which is why it is a good alternative to the SSRIs, (which are known for those two side effects.)

The smilies and such are broken. If you know the code you can post them.

Otherwise, I think it's best to discuss with the doctor any concerns. We can only share our Experience, Strength and Hope, (ESH), here on SR, as we are not medical people and are not trained to give medical advice. ( And honestly, would you want to take advice from any Tom, Dick or Harry over the internet? )

Shalom!

I wasnt looking for medical advice, just if they had probs with this med. I was put on mirazpine and didn't know there was weight gain, until I talked to someone and she said she was put on this med to gain weight. Thats why I wanted to know. I am not trying to bother anyone or anything.

historyteach is right though. everyone has different experiences with various anti-depressants. Some people will say they love it, others will say they hate it and had horrible side effects. Thats why its best discussed with a doctor

I know it is best, but some docs will just give u anything and not talk to u about the side effects or anything. My psyiciatrist does that. I need to get another, well, I'll make the appt now, if I don't, I won't. thanks guys!

Alycia,
I'm sorry. You weren't bothering anyone by asking the question.
And I honestly didn't mean to offend you...

If you can't talk to your psychiatrist, I think you're doing exactly the right thing by getting another one. I wish you all the best....

Shalom!

Hi Alycia! I just started Zoloft (for Major Depression and OCD) a few weeks ago but had to stop for a week because I had a seizure on 6/22, my first one ever. It was soo scary! It wasn't due to the Zoloft. My Neuro prescribes it to his patients. They won't know until I have an EEG. Anyhoo, back to the subject, lol. I've heard some of the side effects of WB is anxiety, very vivid dreams, and extra energy (which energy isn't bad, lol). I was on WB but took myself off of it. I don't know why.

But, yes, definitely talk to your doc and ask ANY question you want. That's what they get paid for. I wish you the best of luck hun.

Yes, anitdepressants can cause tics or other motor issues.
Yes, there are other antidepressants that may have better anti-anxiety effect than wellbutrin, but please ask your doctor specfically to address both issues.

I think you made a good move by switching doctors--having a doc who listens can make all the difference--I had a similar experience with a crappy Dr. now I have a good one.

I have been on Welbutrin for two years and it has worked very well for me, but I did notice side effects when I first started, such as feelings of depersonalization, racing thoughts, and shakyness. I gained weight on all other antidepressants I was on before this--I have not gained any weight on Welbutrin. I too had anxiety, Welbutrin isnt known to be great for that, but as everyone else said, speak to your doc. They might try out several different meds for a bit to see what works well for you.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Are you saying that you were on it, and then stopped taking it? and then they upped to 300 so you are going to start taking it again?
That kind of sounds like something I would do, be careul if that is what you are doing, you may want to start or tell them you haven't been taking it, they may want to start you on a lower dose and work you back up.
Starting to high, can make you really sick.
If that's not what your saying, just ignore me, sorry.
Wellbutrin works well for me. I have some side effects when I first start it, but they go away.
now i have been taking it for 2 days, I was at 150 for 1 wk and then he upped it, and I couldn't remember to take it in the morning, and was taking it at night. It seems now to work better if I take it after my dose in the morning, but I just have to remember! Thanks done and everyone else with ur input!
I was put on effexor many years ago (12-14 years ) ans i gained a little wieght.
But I'll tell you something....a doctor when i was in detox told me i could go off effexor xr with no withdrawals. So I did and the withdrawals were like something from hell. I managed to go off 1/2 of my daily amount but had to go back on 1/2 because of withdrawals.
I was in detox for opiats.
I think I might be able to help.
Here is a neat site that talks about popular medications, there is a section where a lot of users of the medicine give their actual experiences. I'm in there somewhere.
You might also go to 'Mental Illness' on SR and search for Wellbutrin or buprion there.
I did 150 1x for a couple of weeks, to get used to the jittery effects. Didn't think I'd ever be able to handle the 2x, but doc said I had to in order to get the proper effect from Wellies.
For me the worst symptons were dry mouth at night, jitters (I cleaned house like mad for a couple of weeks, but it dies down), there was a brief weight loss at the beginning (Wellies are the single anti-d that does this).
The most bizarre were weird dreams and, shall we say, a 'positive' sexual side effect, which might be looked upon as a curse if you are single. Needless to say, if you are in a relationship, don't look to Wellies as causing trouble in that area. In fact, like smoking cessation, Wellbuterin is used as a cure for certain other maladies.
My doc recommended taking first dose in am with food, then taking the second in early afternoon so the speedy effect was gone by bed time.
Good luck and keep checking in. Remember that most anti-d's work on 2 of 3 brain chemicals, so sometime some switching around or combinations are necessary to really elevate you from the depression. Discuss your feelings and side effects openly with your doc and you should be fine. I found that there was nothing to fear and no shame in needing chemicals to rebalance me from the damage I'd done with cocaine.
Michael
