Beware of new posts - SoberRecovery : Alcoholism Drug Addiction Help and Information

Just want to encourage everyone to be aware of new posters and their content. Earlier today, we had a couple of posts from an alleged darvocet user who made specific mention of how many he/she had, and it appeared he/she was trying to unload some.
While I hope everyone here is supportive in his/her own way (like grumpy me) please maintain your radar for such times and report them right away.

Hope I'm not overstepping here, mods, just want everyone to be aware.

Anyone who comes here with the intention of unloading (or acquiring drugs) should be reported to the proper authorities, Just get thier IP address and report them to thier ISP.

Yeah that struck me as strange, a post about the darvocets and quantity.

Same thing with the post on saturday "high v. low functioning addicts and recovery" by trammyman99. Many of us, myself included fell for that. Although the posts were quality.

Other message boards I frequent are getting spammed comercially a lot lately. Must be the new frontier in dot bomb country. Morons.

The thread from this morning that you are talking about, was removed.

The member was banned.

It's always helpful to let one of the Mods know, if you see a post like that

Almost all of our new members are here for the same reasons that we are - they are seeking recovery..

Oh wow,

I didn't realize that this person wasn't here for recovery. I don't know if I had ever posted something like that in the past when I was first reaching out, I may have,, but I would have been wondering what to do with them, or about them, or if anyone had a huge habit like mine and I guess that's what I thought he was asking.. I did read the post, and I almost replied, and I was wondering why no one else was replying, but now I know... I guess I catch on slow.

Well thanks for the info.. Sad that there are people out there that maybe wanting to
play on others addiction.. Well we know there are alot of those people, don't we! Best we stay away from them..

Maybe they are jealous of a forum where caring, help and information are the main "stock in trade".

can someone put a sample thread or comment on here showing what they look like? I am a kindof person that I start talking to anyone and then I would get caught up in it, so I want to see what it is like to know what to do!

The basic thing that made me suspicious was the fact that the poster mentioned how many pills he/she had on hand, but never mentioned a problem with drugs, just that he/she had a certain amount of pills available. It screamed, to me, that he/she was looking for a sale.
Anything that raises my eyebrows usually makes me stay away from a thread, however this one had me concerned about those who read the forums who might be teetering on the brink and would have been interested in making a deal.
Who knows? It may have been a troll who had no drugs at all but wanted to see an addict in pain beg. Either way, it was an horrific thing to do.

A typical most might look like this:

"Hi, everyone. I'm new here. I take like 6 or 8 vikes a day and seem to have a never ending supply. I have tons right now.
Anyway, I've been reading posts here and I just wanted to say hi!"

See- it mentions drug use and plenty of supply, also, no mention of any problem with drug use. It's kind of like a phishing scam, hoping to pull someone in. And in my early moments here, I might have been tempted to PM and try to get some.So, I'm kind of protective of people who might be reading but not posting.
