tramadol & alcohol addiction

well i used to come here 4 what it seems like years ago...i tried to kick the hydrocodone and drinking, but i couldnt so when i finally found a way to get off the vicoden by using ultram (tramadol) wellll now i take tramadol...if i dont i will start getting sick i will cough and get sick until i take my dosage again...i swear i have just learned to live with this addiction. the only thing i wonder is that i am sure there will be a day when i surely would have to stop ...and the horrible feeling i get when i am presented with this thought....anyways just wanted to stop by and say hi and just write a few lines
btw...alycia i am glad you are still doing well xxxooo to yur boys

Hey, odie. I remember you.

Question: what's the longest you've put up with the withdrawals before you've given in?

Peace & Love,
Sugah

Hi,

I used to abuse Tramadol like crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!! I loved that drug. I also abused Vicodin.

I went to rehab/detox to get off of these opiates (I was also abusing Valium).

In rehab I learned HOW to deal with my life (my 3 year old, my husband, housework) without the use of these drugs. There ARE other ways of dealing with life besides taking drugs.

You will only know when you are ready. Drugs aren't the solution to everyday problems. In my opinion they just make life worse.

How much Tramadol are you taking? If you decide to stop PLEASE se a dr. Tramadol withdrawal can cause seizures.

Keep posting and let us know how you are doing.

Hang in there!!!

Liz

It doesn't sound like you're managing all that competently on the pills and booze.

I know the feeling, though. Trust me, it's all an ill-usion.
Best,
Bear

I think and hope you can make it off this drug. I had a friend who got on and off it. I don't understand how anyone gets anything off this drug. I got a script for it once and got nothing! Anyway, I know it has a SSRI anti-depressant component to it that makes it tough to stop. all the best

Hey XJUNKIE4U, I gotta clarify this: Tramadol does not have an anti-depressant component . It is a synthetic opiate prescribed for analgesic purposes i.e. for extreme pain.
it is EXTREMELY addictive.

actually, it does have something in it that lifts mood and has AD properties. you are right, it is a synthetic opiate, but is also noncontrolled and per FDA, NONaddctive
however, when you take it, you don't get euphoria, like you do with opiates per se, you get a more positive outlook, a contentness, a focus, and energy, although nothing like vicodin or coke.
maybe it doesn't for everyone, but for me (day four off 15-30 a day cold turkey), it DID have AD properties. that is why the mental wds are so much worse than just opiates (and i have also gone cold turkey off about 400mg hydro per day, and this is worse)

I understand that it is hard to get off of after long use more because of the brain chemical component.. I just don't understand why people would take this addictivly when there is no real kick like a real narcotic. If you need something for serious pain this drug is a joke,

a lot of abusers started out with vicodin, and went to ultram.
i took it cause it was "safer", and i knew i abused the vicodin. however, i am a pill addict, not just a vike addict.
take two, takes away mild pain and gives what i described above. hmmmmmmmmm, addict thinks, maybe take four next time, then five, etc
bam, addictive behavior with a joke drug

it is generic ultram
oh and odie, i did the same thing. run out of vicodin, get ultram. run out of ultram, get vike. i also used the ultram to kick a vicodin relapse, then tried vicodin to kick ultram.

Funny how it works, and how we rationalize things in our head. When i was popping pills and addicted to codeine I thought no way i'm not a drug user. Junkie's are people who do heroin and crack. I figured if I didn't do what I considered "hard" drugs I was somehow above the people on the street. That is until I found myself there and while I had a nice home to go home to, and no track marks in my arm I soon realized we're all the same. Whether its the prostitute doing tricks for crack or the lawyer doing coke in bathroom on his break.

Gotta agree on the "antidepressant" properties. Tramadol can produce the feeling a lot of people seek from antidepressants (odie said it beautifully above). Problem is the w/d from tramadol can be more difficult than from "heavier" true opiates.

Hey, Misti- I did the same thing...perc or vike to tram and vice versa.

i don't imagine it will be long before it becomes controlled.
there's got to be a lot of people checking into rehabs for it

Hi odie, I used valium to get off klonopin and coedine to get off my valium addiction.
It made sense to me at the time but the coedine was difficult to come off as I found it very addictive. I relapst about 27 times on coedine.
That being said I now have about 9 months clean time under my belt.
I have to say I am worried about you odie, please don't kill yourself with drugs.
Please pick up the phone and call for help.....call NA
I did it, you can too. Please take care.
