| Is there a name for it..??
I have not used any Coke for quite a while now, but to be honest, i was thinking about splashing out on a large portion today.. When i have that train of thought, i get very very restless. I feel like taking a #2 every 5 minutes, i can't sit still for a second, my palms constantly tingle & sometimes i wanna throw up.. What is that feeling called & is there any way i can overcome being like this..??? /Thanks for taking time out to read my post. |

I'd look into some behaviorist techniques for dealing with it. Here's a start: http://www.hbo.com/addiction/underst...3_craving.html Buzz |

Do whatever you feel will keep you safest. For me I locked myself in my room when I was detoxing. I didn't leave for two weeks. I knew I would pick up. Now that wasn't smart but it worked. I threw out my cell and even if I wanted to pick up I couldn't. It will pass, it always does, and it'll return....it always does

Good idea...You can do it. Just try not to think about it and do something..anything to keep your mind occupied. Or if you must..Just think about how it is goinng to be when it is gone and after...That seems to work for me alot. All those nasty feelings. Sore runny nose..cant breathe...feel like $hit...Gums hurt..nose hurts...snot running all over your face..Get the picture?

A complusive obsessive dominant thought. I could never do it alone, ever. I had to be locked up. I really hope you get over it. If you feel you can't, I suggest you check into a rehab. Good Luck.

headache so bad you want to hit your head against a wall, the paranoia, the jumpiness that you try to make go away by doing more or popping downers, the excrutiating pain you have or will have when your nose starts falling apart, inability to breathe at all, nausea, bloody nose, vomiting blood. Enough?

| Oh ya, the absolute worst. I used to pop sudafed and sinutab like candy but it didn't do anything to help with breathing. Beyond awful. You knwo what though thanks Hesh for this thread, just re-enforced more reasons why I never wanna touch the sh*t again.

yes cravings can take over all your senses... play the tape all the way through in your head. your focused on the actual use and the 5 minutes of pleasure that follow.... let that thought continue to the feelings of gulit afterwards, remorse, depression, sadness, negative consequence if you give into this ect. believe it or not the craving is easier to deal with than all of the after emotions. sending you strength and hugs |

hesh - yup those are definitely the symptoms of cravings! good news is THEY PASS. bad news is they sometimes come back. it's just part of the gig.........the more time away from the dope, the less they bother ya. somewhere once i stumbled upon this great article that talked about certain points on the recovery scale when cravings and urges were more likely to occur. i'll see if i can unearth that some day.... couple of helpful hints.....try to find anything else to do with your hands and body, rather than just sit there. clean, alphabetize the cd's, do some pushups...something physical that doesn't require a lot of serious brain power......deep slow breaths, in thru the nose, out thru mouth.......tell yourself it's just a thing, it WILL pass.......call a trusted sober person......play the tape all the way thru.....keep yourself as safe as possible, ie not the time to just "go for a drive".......play music, LOUD....be grateful you are having urges.....we don't get urges when we are LOADED, only when we are NOT.......the brain is healing itself, trying to fix the wiring, and sometimes those synapses that were created due to our addiction, those direct lines to the pleasure center that make us go so nuts for the sh*t, sometimes they fire off again....... i found that as times passes the MORE inappropriate the time, the more likely i might be to get hit with the thought or idea....like you know, sitting there in your annual review talking to your boss and OUT OF NOWHERE you get this visual in your dang head that has to do with lighters and crap and you're trying to maintain your cool????? don't be alarmed. and don't worry that your recovery must suck. addicts think about drugs. that's kinda what we do. using or not. we just don't need to DWELL on the thought. just acknowledge it, and let it pass on by. and move your mind to better things........ |
