Klonopin and Increased Anger?

Anybody experience increased anger on Klonopin (as opposed to other benzos)?

windysan 06-26-2007 11:14 AM

I dunno cuz I just took all kinds at once.

LOL

Aysha 06-26-2007 11:40 AM

I know xanax makes me violent when I took more than I was suppose to.
I would be fine until the littlest thing aggravated me. Then I wanted to fight any and everybody.

Barto 06-26-2007 12:35 PM

I am not taking anymore than prescribed, in fact I am taking less. Maybe it is not the Klonopin. It could just be coincidence.

Live 06-26-2007 12:50 PM

I recently asked my p-doc if there was a relationship between xanax and anger and she said no, that anger is usually related to depression.

Barto 06-26-2007 12:51 PM

Okay. That makes sense.

Depression is a symptom of caffeine w/d.

Lizrox 06-26-2007 01:07 PM

Barto,

I don't think its the Klonopin.

Liz

Barto 06-26-2007 01:34 PM

You are probably right. Everything I’ve read so far is in line with that. Thanks. How are you?

2ala2 06-26-2007 01:44 PM

Klonopin is Rivotril here. Man, did that stuff make me angry. I always, ALWAYS, got in biiig trouble when on Rivo. They call it the 'catastrophe' here. It was a really bad deal for me. It came in second after Rohypnol, another tragedy. I hope you get off it soon. I would get angry at the silliest reasons, rageful sometimes.
I hope you find peace soon..

PaperDolls 06-26-2007 02:04 PM

I take a low dose of Klonopin. Not even everyday (because I'm scared of the addiction possibilities).

I've got the anger for sure. I always thought the anger was from my depression. I think that's even what my therapist said but for my foggy mind. I've got an appt. with my therapist tonight so I'll ask her and she if she thinks there is any connection. I'll let you know.

hillbilly35 06-26-2007 02:07 PM

klonopin and zanax always made me angry the next day.
They also caused me to wreck a few cars and get my a$$ kicked a few times.
And I never could remmember why.

Barto 06-26-2007 04:29 PM

Hmm. So maybe it is, and maybe it isn’t.

Well, the doc crossed me over to it to taper off, rather than tapering Xanax. So, we’ll see. Thanks Paper. Let me know what you hear.

Hillbilly, I know what you mean, but this is not next day anger. And I remember yesterday. This anger is while taking as prescribed. 2mg per day at the moment.

emmer 06-26-2007 06:02 PM

Oh boy did klonopin ever make me rage and I mean rage!
I used to drive around waiting for someone to road rage on me so i could fight them.
It never happened.
As soon I crossed over to valium the rage stopped and i never had it again ...not even once.
I never raged before klonopin and i never raged after i got off klonopin..... never again did I rage.

That stuff makes a lot of people rage.

No doctor who prescribes klonopin will admit it makes some people rage.

Wow did I ever use the word rage a lot in my reply ...lol

marcella98 06-26-2007 06:38 PM

I was taking a very low dose of xanax for about a year-- I usually wouldn't take more than .5 mgs a day, usually .25, and about half of the week I took none. I noticed about a month in that I was having moments where I would rage with anger, usually for no reason at all or little triggers like if a car cut me off. I tried to follow a pattern and I think it happened mainly at the time that the dose of xanax was leaving my system. So I think that irritability and rage can be a side effect, even in low doses of benzos. At least that's been my experience.

PaperDolls 06-26-2007 09:08 PM

Well, I forgot to ask my therapist her opinion. No worries. I'll be seeing her next week.

I hope all is well with you Barto.

Jane63 06-27-2007 07:43 AM

I know I get more angry than I used to when I was younger...but I am sure mine is more of a "female nature" at this point in my life. ***sorry guys!*}

I think anxiety itself and the feelings that accompany it will cause anger/rage. Also it may be the result of upsetting things going on around you or in your life.

I do not see how something that is supposed to calm you down like Xanax or Klonopin could be the culprit but it could be.....

I hope you are feeling better today, **{Barto}}, and the anger has subsided! Try to get your rest, get outside in the sunshine for awhile, maybe exercise or go for a brisk walk, start a project that will make you extremely happy and rewarded when you finish it...A little "ME TIME" is good for everyone!!
Take care!!

I wouldn't say it made me ANGRY but it made me extremely irritable with a short fuse. Funny how I was using it for anxiety when in fact it would only make it worse

Barto 06-27-2007 10:57 AM

Well, this is strange.

My anger sort of came out right after crossing over from Xanax. Today is better. Thanks everyone.

t_a_n_y_a_ 06-27-2007 11:11 AM

Glad its better Barto. I mean you are tapering off medications your body is used to, thats bound to make you feel angry and irritable

Barto 06-27-2007 11:17 AM

Thanks Tanya.

I hope it is just a temporary affect from crossing over.
