hooked on pain meds for too long and now am w/d'ing!
Well I started taking Vicodin and Percocet for about a year and a 1/2 now and am trying to get off of them first couple days i went cold turkey but could no longer take the feelings of me feeling like I was absolutely going to die so the next day I went from 12 pills a day to 5..and then 5 down to 2 a day and now today i havnt taken one and i feel that same sick feeling yet once again...can somebody tell me what is going on and how much longer I will be like this if I dont touch another pill???? Today I started taking 1 mg of Ativan to help me with the edge of things. Thanks for listening and hope to hear from anyone soon!

Clarissa, try to relax.
Barto is right, your best option is a rehab specialist. If that is not an option for you for whatever reason, call your physician. If you have come this far, my humble opinion is to go cold turkey. Drink plenty of water and gatorade and keep yourself hydrated. Try immodium AD for the runs.
I came off a 20-30 day vicodin habit and quit cold turkey, the worst was over for me on day 5 or 6. Potassium (in vitamin form, bananas, etc) helps with the cramps. B-12 vitamins help with the nerves. Valerian root may help as well(can be purchased from any GNC or vitamin store.)
We're here for you, hang in there, do not pick up...and if possible, call your physician. The worst was over for me in 5 days, after that it was mainly getting my energy back.
You do not want to substitute one addiction for another. For some folks, benzo withdrawal is worse than opiate withdrawal, and lasts much longer. But again I must emphasize you talk with your doctor, if you dont have one, get one. - Chris

Give it a few more days and u will start to feel better. Maybe your taper was too fast no matter what though u will go through w/d's I dont really think there is a way of getting out of them. They arent fun but do end. So give it a few days things will start settling down. Take immodium drink lots of fluid and rest when your body feels it will. Everything will return to normal it just takes some time.
