Benzo addiction

I was put on a benzo medication a few weeks ago. It has really helped me
with my self-harming(cuttting) and my eating disorder..I still cut and
binge & purge..However, I do not do it as near as often as I did before being put
on this medication.

I have been reading several posts about benzo addiction..So, will I be trading
addictions for other addictions..I honestly didn't know that the medication
was a benzo...until after I already been taking it for a couple fo weeks.
Then reading about this being a benzo from one of the posts..

Is there a time that when is best to be on addictive medication for health
reasons? !or! Is best to never ever use such medications...

I hope someone can understand what I am saying..I have several
health problems..I know that I abuse my medications..However, my family
and I are much happier when I take them..When one has chronic pain
along with aniexty...It make you very cranky and difficult. So, people do
not want to be around you..

I can only advise you to talk with your Dr. about all of your concerns and medical issues. I do, however, strongly recommend getting a Dr. who is also an addictionologist. Too many Drs. mean well, but do not have a clue about addictions, IMO.

I was just wondering if someone has been in my position..
I didn't know anything about benzos until I started reading posts here.
I certainly do not want to put myself in a situation that I may regret
later. If someone would of told me how addictiong opiates where and that a medication I was put on was an opiate. I certainly would never
took that first pill. A pill to 3 pills a day took care of my pain and I was fine.
Now I take 3 or more pills several times a day..Then when I try going without or cutting down..I end up feeling much worse than the pain I was experencing in the very first place when I was first put on the medication...

Hi Karlee - I agree with Phin. You have so much going on right now health-wise (MS, seizures, eating disorder, cutting, etc, etc) and most importantly you are an active addict. Even those of us in recovery who need to take medications with the potential for abuse can still struggle with keeping it real. I think as an active addict you may find it very difficult to control your use of benzos. I've seen you admit on another post that you know you need to be in a rehab facility. Have you given that more thought? I truly think that's your best option as you probably need a greater level of medical care given your other health issues. You can't use family problems, etc, as an excuse not to go when you know that's where you need to be. The chaos in your life and your addiction issues are not going to get better on their own. You need to take care of Karlee first - everyone and everything else can wait. It's your life we're talking about here.

Hi, Karlee. You know active addiction will make you very cranky and difficult! (I should know!)

Margo really nails it: If you're still drinking girl, ain't a one of us here going to say it's all right for you to use benzos. Please understand that's not a "yes" or "no" for you, but safety = don't mix 'em.

I won't ramble a lot but just don't play with this, ok? Your addiction problem. Do not play around with it or let it go. Focus on getting help.

I also have cutted on my left arm, had stiches on about 8 that would be 8 times in my easry 20's. I was and am an food addict, i used to purge, told my family about it they woukd go to the bathroom to make sure i did not purge, but u would eat wgen they were notaround, i would purge in a rash bab...i was 95 pounds, thought i was fat, purging gave me a sick control, also i would not gain weight...

i got panic atacks bad ones, i wa given a rx for xanax, i did not take it wasn fear of pils back then, thought i was dying, going nuts, until i had such a bad attack i took the pill and all went away, so here we are and this drug is to be given 3 months, not 21 years! it is the worst out there, get off of it asap ans yes it is habit forming...

I can't remember which she said she was on. But I certainly confer--Xanax (and Klonopin, lol!) are absolutely the worstest out there, especially for us alcoholics. Damned things act just like booze, only more targeted and more potent.

Sounds like you are taking quite a lot. If you take benzos long term the side effects can be horrendous and withdrawal extremely hard. Taking them with alcohol can bring on severe side effects.

I haven't had any opiates since last Thursday. So, it now has been 3 days.
However, I have dranked every day..I know what you are saying about rehab..
I just can't do that...My husband has a really bad temper and I have no one to care
for my kids..Plus, my daughter is very ill..I am having a really bad day because family issues. I so badly want to go use right now....
