Requesting Detox information....

If a Dr was to drop a patient that is taking 150-200mgs a day of oxycodone
and expect them to go cold turkey....
What meds if any can they ask the Dr. for to help with withdrawls? Will the Dr. even give a crap about WD's and refuse to give them anything? Can a pain doctor give out that Subutex stuff or is that only a special Dr that can do that?
Is there something that can make it possible to start a new job without dealing with full blown WD's during the first week or 2 of work.
Any med suggestions I can ask him about like for example.... Clonidine/Subutex/the one that starts with a Bup?

Not sure what will happen when I call for my refills and not even sure if I got the job yet.... I just wanna be prepared.

Suboxone is probably your best bet... Only special doctors can prescribe it, so head on over to Suboxone's website and look for a physician in your area that will prescribe it (that's how I found my doctor!). Also, you can TRY Librium and Catapres, those did wonders for me during my first week of withdrawals, but it made me like a zombie... It wasn't fun and all I could do was sleep. PLEASE stay away from Methadone! I know so many people (even family members) who are and have been hooked on it for many years! A cousin of mine has been on Methadone for about 5-6 years now and STILL snorts Oxycontin!

But honestly, Suboxone is the way to go. I'm not sure about costs/medical insurance/etc, that's something you'll have to go over with the prescribing doctor.

Good luck!

"Any med suggestions I can ask him about like for example.... Clonidine/Subutex/the one that starts with a Bup?"

Quote:
1. What are Suboxone and Subutex?

Subutex and Suboxone are medications approved for the treatment of opiate dependence. Both medicines contain the active ingredient, buprenorphine hydrochloride, which works to reduce the symptoms of opiate dependence.

2. Why did the FDA approve two medications?

Subutex contains only buprenorphine hydrochloride. This formulation was developed as the initial product. The second medication, Suboxone contains an additional ingredient called naloxone to guard against misuse.

Subutex is given during the first few days of treatment, while Suboxone is used during the maintenance phase of treatment.

3. Will most prescriptions be for the Suboxone formulation?

Yes, Suboxone is the formulation used in the majority of patients.

How soon would the job start? If you start a detox right now, in three or four days, you should be over the worst of the wd's, body will stop hurting so badly, and the diarrhea should start tapering off. One of the symptoms that will probably continue to linger for awhile is the sweats/chills, and that's more irritating than painful. Cold turkey isn't all that big a deal (hurts like a really, really bad case of the flu, and you've probably had that before, right?), and choosing it over another drug treatment solves the problem of how to get off something else in the future. If you're dealing with a physical dependence rather than the disease of addiction, then you've made it through the hard part. If you do in fact believe you have the disease of addiction, then you probably should be thinking about some sort recovery plan -- rehab, meetings, outpatient therapy.

Peace & Love,
Sugah

My outpatient rehab doctor gave me clonidine, a strong anti-inflammatory for pain, baclofen for muscle cramps, and a drug they give people with IBS for stomach cramps. It really made WDs bearable.

Hi you have recieved good responses here.. It's up to you which road you
choose to go down. But as stated above, suboxone can not be given by a doctor unless they have taken that "extra" training. I do believe though that not only can you look on that list, you can ask around in your local area, maybe your doctors, or maybe pharmacists in your area that may know doctors that prescribe sub if you are having trouble finding one.. That's if you decide to take that road.

If you decide to go cold turkey, the meds they have listed work too.. But your doctor will know what to give, when you talk with him.. You can do this.. Don't that everyone at SR is here for you.

Good Luck,
Becky

Thankx guys.... I think I am more scred of going back to the level of pain I used to be in than actally going through WD's.
I really want this job.... I just do not want to start out my first week or 2 saying I got the flu...someone is bound to put 2 and 2 together...maybe not but still not a good way to start (if I do start).....
not even sure if my Dr is gonna drop me yet.... I just want to get all my ducks in a row and be prepared.
If he don't drop me I still wanna cut down on my meds and eventually take a break from them for awhile. I am scared of the pain coming back though as that would keep me in bed and I would definately loose any new job I get.
Not sure if it is physical addiction or a disease....all I know is that when I get stressed out or upset I always think about taking more to chill out.....and I get freaked out and depressed when I am down to having only 15 pills left.

It's a good thing that you realize this.. But dealing with it is a whole other story. It might be a good idea to check into some kind of meetings,, for support.. SR is great because it's here 24/7, but really, nothing beats face to face support..

Hang in there..

Becky

I used to abuse my meds...sience joining here and thankx to Mikiglen and Cat(RIP) I now take them as directed and only messed up a couple times.....but I do still get urges like when I get stressed and when I know I gotta clean the house. I HAVE RESISTED THOUGH....been a good girl. It is hard though...not sure how I would handle if DR stopped me cold turkey...thing is he is the nicest guy I have ever met so I do not know if he would cold turkey me or maybe give me another chance and ween me. The not knowing what will happen when I call for refills is killing me......had my urine test done on 3/29....not sure if he or the office would call if there was an issue or wait until next appointment or when I call for refill. WE SHALL SEE a week from Monday.

A doctor was giving you 150-200mgs/oxy per day? And he just cut you off? I would think a doctor would try and wean you off. As far as withdrawals...well, it does vary from person to person. You have two situations to deal with....physical withdrawals and 'mental' withdrawals. The physical is tough...but, the mental is the hardest. You need to really want to turn your life around...without a full commitment to yourself it may be impossible. Not to discourage your need for sobriety..but, you need to be behind your recovery 100%...no ifs ands or buts. Do as much research online about withdrawals and recovery...worked for me. I'm over 15 months clean from a 4 plus year ride on the opium express. Meetings may help as well, it is always good to talk with others that have been there. Stay busy and get your body healthy again, it is really a rebirth.
You will be in my thoughts.
Best,
Golf
