| tapering off sub
Tonight I feel dissappointed because I waited until 9:30 to take my dose of sub and a few seconds after I put it under my tongue I realized that I had a goal in the back of my mind to try to not take it. I was really busy, and forgot kinda and pushing myself as well. So I get the feeling I can do this, but it will be difficult. I think tomorrow I will cut them in half and do that for a week. Any suggestions? Has anyone tapered off 2mg and was it fairly easy, or should I get down to 1mg first. Or am I being a big baby?

I have been tapering off cigarettes the last two weeks. I was smoking almost 2 packs a day, and now I am down to 4 cig's a day. I have been tapering down a little at a time. Don't beat yourself up, just try again. Do what you feel comfortable with and what you can handle. Then get comfortable with that, then decrease again. Don't try and jump in all at once, your head will blow off, and we don't want that. Set a goal, try your best, and if you have to, I know this sounds corny BUT...I wrote encouraging post it notes and left them all over the house, and when I went to the kitchen or bathroom, or wherever, I saw them, and it really helped me get through those first few days. Whatever you have to do, do it. Just take it easy, not too much too fast...with sober love..I hope this helped..

Well there is a whole lot to consider in asnwering the best way to taper off sub..but assuming you have been on long enough to break the addictive habits, allowed for some brain healing and etc etc..then the most important thing I have witnessed ppl have the most trouble with in tapering off sub is the mental part.. yes you may have some physical effects, depending again on the above and many other factors..BUT the worse we think anything will be ..well the worse it will be.. so try not to psych yourself into thinking about it at all if possible, or at least too much.. break the 2mgs in half and try that..for however long you need to be comfortable, or yes you can jump off 2 and how bad you feel again depends on the above but also how much you set yourself up for mentally.. Also because of the long half life of sub you might try every other day dosing in this taper, that has been successful for many as they go every other day on 2 mgs then every 3rd day and eventually forget in some cases..or do the every other day with the 1mgs..and remember you may not feel anything till the 2nd or 3rd day after a dose drop because of the half life.. and of course on the www.naabt.org site there is a tapering sticky with ppl experiences and what has worked for them etc..and I believe on the actual suboxone site they have a taper/dose schedule for from 4-30 day detox/tapers..having done a 7 day taper I can say it was painless...but I will also say I knew nothing about it at the time, so ignorance can be bliss lol I went on maint once returning to my home because I just knew I needed to listen the Drs recommendation on that score..anyway best of luck and dont forget to do things you enjoy and keep busy!
