| Finally taking care of myself
One of the problems that made me abuse pain meds was horrific headaches, at least in the beginning. Once I got sober, my headaches came back full force so I decided to go and get them taken care of once and for all after 20 years! I had an MRI (fine) and a neck and shoulder XRay which showed bone spurs (my headaches occur on the same side as that shoulder so thats probably a mitigating factor) My doctor started my on an anti-inflamatory that I only take at night (one I've never heard of) and topamax as a preventative. I will still take Relpax if I get a migraine. It's been a week now and this morning for the first time I woke up without a headache. I could just cry I'm so happy. I'm kind of sick of meds, between bipolar meds and now this, but the headaches were ruining my life and I feel like I'm finally taking a positive step instead of turning to opiates to make my life better. Thanks for letting me share. |
