| oxycontin withdrawal
Hello all, can anyone tell me if, after going through withdrawal, your body goes back to a state like before oxycodone was used, even if you were on a fairly high dose before stoping, im so tired of this rollercoaster im on i seem to always run out of my meds 10-12 days early they are oxycontin 40, perc 5, and soma 350 the reason im asking , is there a chance of overdose, as the scripts get stronger, im in a pain management program for degenerating disc disease. i just cant seem to get it right and run out early, im so tird of these horrable withdrawals, im in day 5 right now, and it still sucks just as bad as the first.

I was like you, cottonhead, and no matter what my dose, I always ran out early and had to either find more or be dope sick. I know this doesn't answer your question (I'm not qualified to do that), but what I had to do was to learn to live without opiates, period. It'd difficult, though not impossible to live with chronic pain conditions and live without opiates and other addictive pain medications. A good pain management doctor will be able to direct you to resources for natural pain relief: meditation, creative visualization, scent & sound therapy and the like. You can have pain and still have quality of life -- far beyond the roller coaster state of using and running out. Prayers. Peace & Love, Sugah

The science says that yes you can go back to pre use state, brain wise, depending on the person and use. Some of the changes to the brain can be permanent however, each person is completely individual tho. Is there any way you can have someone else hold our meds for you? Maybe not daily but even weekly..so you can retrain yourself to take them as directed..it can and has been done..even if you just picked up part of your scrip, weekly, then if you run out early DO NOT go pick the next weeks up till you are due, it would take a ton of work on your part, but I believe anyone can do anything if they have the right attitude. Try journaling, your use, keep track of when how much etc, and also consider journaling your feelings/thoughts.That way when you run out you can look back at why you took this when and find the root of what is causing this for you to some degree. A professional therapist, doesnt have to be a drug counselor, can also be of use. I may be a minority but I have found that my drug use was but a symptom of much larger psychosocial and psychological issues that needed addressing. it is not a bad thing or make anyone less of a person if they need pain meds for life for chronic conditions.Quality of life is an important fact.. best of luck to you

I ran out early too...same meds....same doses...except the soma med. I take the OC 40 & Oxy 5's..... I retrained myself...someone held them for me and gave me my 3 Oxycontin's & 6 Oxycodone's every morning...that was and still is my daily doses. It took awhile to get used to but now a few mths later...I am taking them as directed and only messed up a couple times and took and extra 40. Other than that.... they last me and I always call on day 25 for my re-fill and get them filled on like day 26-27 a few days early but I always have 2-3 days worth left over when I get hem filled.....I hide those for emergency's and have not touched them.....so if I can do it so can you. I have no will power that is why I asked my cousin to hold them....she lives upstairs and not an issue with giving me my daily meds on time. If I have the bottle I will take them and take them and take them and they will last 2 weeks tops.... even the 5's I'd eat like candy..... I used to get really sick in between...so I started calling for refills to not go without. Run out of one get other refilled.... until I just got sick of spending $$$ I do not have to avoid getting sick...... it has been over a month I have been trying holding my own...only a weeks worth though at a time....starting slow.....doing rather well I must say. Good Luck...keep me posted. PM me if ya want to talk.... we take the same crap so I know what you are going through. |

I would check out PAWS - Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome, cottonhead. There are threads here on it or you can Google it, too. Are you trying to quit Oc or trying to manage your doses? For me, an addict, managing my doses was simly impossible.

are you asking, say....you take three oxy 40s a day...then are out for five days, then get prescribed oxy 80s...would you be at risk for OD? no, the answer i think would be no. five days is not long enough to get you back to your pre oxy state. now, if you take three oxy 40s per day, then are out for six months, THEN go to oxy 80s...that might be too much. at that point, your body would be semi back to "normal", and 80 might throw it into shock. even a 40 might knock you on your ass if you've been clean for awhile. from my experience...even after 9 years sober, taking close to 80-100 vicodin per day when i stopped...when i relapsed, it was only a matter of days before i could have tolerated that dose again. the body remembers. obviously, had i taken 100 that first day, i probably would have died...but after maybe a week or so of building up to it, i would have had no problem does that make sense?
