My doctor, who is in full knowledge of what I was addicted to, perscribed me trazodone for sleep, 50mg a night. Can this make the pyschological stress of recovery and post-acute withdrawal worse? Any help or experiences would be greatly appreciated. I'm just worried because he said he doesn't have much experience in the matter.

Trazadone can be highly addictive. I strongly suggest you find and go to a doctor who is an addictionologist. Best to you!

Trazodone, aka Desyrel, is very often used at night to help people sleep. It's an antidepressant with pronounced sedative properties. "Can this make the pyschological stress of recovery and post-acute withdrawal worse?" That, I don't know. LOL And when I don't know... I say it! One would think it would make these better, if any effect at all on your recovery. But I cannot say with any confidence and perhaps a member like gettingbetter or someone else can weigh in and help us. Ten post-edit :: Well I posted over Phinneas. LOL To my knowledge there is nothing addictive about trazodone, which has been employed for many years as a sleeping-aid for alcoholics and addicts. But I've no experience with the drug--only what I've told you. |

Not addictive but for me it made me have restless leg syndrome when I took it. That can be a side effect for some people. it ended up keeping me awake at night. Just watch and see how you feel. love north |

I have also tried it with no effect, not strong enough to overpower the boulders of crack that I had smoked. I'm not sure of it's addictive properties as we normally dispensed it as a psyh drug and as a "prn" as needed sleep aid. Pills are finicky, some are addictive to one person but not another and some work well for one, but not the other.

As an update to the previous post, I went to see an addiction specialist and talked with a pyschiatrist. She said that the trazodone would not make it any worse and that the dosage I was on shouldn't cause any problems. They also said that they didn't think I was really addicted, and that most of what I was going through was pyschological stress arising from the physical rebalance of chemicals. Nomad |

| Yippee! Yet another drug I won't be taking. At my age, I don't need any chemical excuses for that! Knowing that sometimes all I can do is laugh, I remain your humble servant, Da Stagebear

I am bumping this because I found it on Google while I was trying to find out if anything I was taking could be making my restless limb issues worse. I have been taking trazodone (so never say never) and have ridiculous restless limb every night. I will go without it for a few days and see whats up. Wishing my last post on this thread hadn't sounded so stupid, I remain,

I talked to my addiction med specialist. He said that Trazadone is non addicting, But there are side effects. When it's used for insomnia it's usually short term. I personally am taking it with no side effects other than mild tachycardia. It knocks me out quick. Ok my 2 cents! bye guys |
