Howdy, campers: Well, the good news is I survived my first dental visit (since stopping perc and tram almost three weeks ago) without pain killers or nitrous. The bad news is that I forgot to tell the dentist not to prescribe any more narcs ever. I had the best intentions, I even deliberately avoided mentioning the possibility of pain afterward, as I knew that would send her running for her script pad. I suppose it's possible that I was protecting a last source, but it truly was not conscious. So, I'll make that call tomorrow, or tell her at my next visit in two weeks (like some addicts, I neglected that part of my health, too). I did hit most of the area pharmacies when I quit, adding narcs and tram to my "allergies". But, like any good addict, I'd find a way. So that's my good, and bad, news for today. Mostly good, I think. Da Stagebear

Bear, don'tcha wanna leave some room for that one procedure down the road which might have ya doubled over? I am no stranger to dental work and surgeries as well. And truth be told, I NEVER have to ask for "stronger stuff" than aspirin/ibuprofen unless it's a really bad toothache or whatever. But I've certainly had my share of surgeries, see. I know about post-op pain. It is quite real. I guess I'm just curious then, Bear. Do you opiate peeps never leave any room for the really bad pain? What do you do? Surely, you will accept humane treatment in those rare cases I just described? Curious! Ten p.s. Good on you and best of luck. |

I asked my doctor about that once. She knows my problem and has always been very lovely and understanding about it. So I asked her if some day what if something really bad happened and I needed opiates for it. She said what we all say. They wouldn't be held back for humane issues, but she would highly suggest having my husband hold them for me.

I suppose, the reality is I may need them in the future, but only after a thorough discussion with a doc who understands addiction. Having someone hold them could be effective, I guess, but I would hesitate to involve my partner in having to listen to me whine for pain meds, etc. Crossing that bridge when I come to it, I remain faithfully your Stagebear

What the hell is CA surgery lol. Coronary artery surgery or cancer surgery. California... uhm surgery ? And yeah I wouldn't want a loved one holding my meds. For me, it would raise too many issues about control & trust. I just never liked the idea, though I am confident that some chemistries can get along with the arrangement. ...not THIS chemistry tho |
