I am a Drug Addict.

Hi.
My name is Veronica. I have been a drug addict my whole entire life. I have quit many things...replacing them with something else.

Now I am down to smoking weed only. It has been going on for years.
I have always been one of those people that say.. At least its not [pick a drug]..

Well..I am 35 years old now. I am finally growing up in so many ways. and there are so many reasons why I need to quit. Today is my first day....anyways..I just wanted to share...

Veronica

Good morning Veronica...

You are in good company here at SR, welcome...

My drug of choice was alcohol, but I dabbled in a variety of substances...

Stick around and read and post often...

Many good and helpful people here. They will be along soon to talk to ya...

One day at a time.

Steve

Thanks for the welcome...I am very excited about this...I have never been totally sober..ever..its always been something. I even gave up my cigerettes six months ago.

I am anxious to see what kind of changes I can make in my life without being stoned all the time. A better parent..do better at my job..better friendships...I know that a sober life can offer so much more if I let it...

I want that life so so bad. I think i have finally reached a point where I want that life more than I want to be stoned...

Wink Good Choice Veronica!

Hi VeronicaLee, welcome, you will find a lot of the answers to the questions you have in the Narcotics Anonymous Basic Text but the real growth required for permanent change comes from working through the steps with a Sponsor.

Here's a link to the NA Basic Text in downloadable adobe pdf format:
http://www.na.org/ips/eng/index.htm

You'll find many other useful links on the na.org site, literature can be ordered via the product links.

Hi and welcome
My DOC is Percocete, any mild grade if can't get percs. I have drank the month of 12/06 "beer" I found myself waking up at 5am, ect and not coffee, but beer. part of 1/07 been too, but not as often.

I was using beer to replace the perc high, to get high, to found myself getting nausea and depression when I drank too much...before that, drank once a blue moon.

Hi there

Good luck giving up the weed, like you I have always replaced one thing with another and I smoke weed, although I have no plans of giving that up just yet. Wish you all the best

Right there with ya hon.

Really--I feel ya. You're 35, I'm 43. And like you, finally growing up, except in my case, into a man. Well, that man sees that he can't be burdened with the albatross of chemical dependency. It... Life just can't go on this way; it's 'untenable' as I like to say. Unacceptable and just one HELL of a burden on mind, body, spirit. It is too costly in oh so many ways.

Glad you're pumped for this. And congratulations on 1) your decision and 2) your very first day!

Wow! Geez Lil Pebbles who'd a thunk that by coming in this thread to congratulate Veronica I'd get such a very strong boost of "you're not alone"ness. Girl when you said, "any mild grade if I can't get Percs"? that WHAMMED me upside the head: I'm clean out of Klonopin and Xanax now and substituting the much weaker Restoril. LOL

It sucks too, because while I'm sure it's working to a degree to help with withdrawals, it's hardly Klonopin. AND - I have to guard against using this indefinitely as some kind of crutch.

Damn Pebbles. You don't know what you did, I'll bet. You just shared. But that sharing has bolstered my awareness and resolve -i thank you.

Welcome !

Never have tried the MJ Maintenance plan myself. Physically. it won't be hard to quit. The habit may be hard to break though.

Good Luck !

Physically I find it very hard to quit. It's very comparable to quitting smoking for me. Which I just went though six months ago..so i know I can do this too.
