Question suboxone detox???? Help!!!

I have been on suboxone 2 8\2's/day for 3 months. My insurance was covering it but my fiscal year has started and I must meet my $6000 deductible for it to b covered again!!! I cannot afford it even with the coupons!! Is there a quick/safe way to detox when I only have 10 strips left???

We can't give medical advice for good reason so you would have to talk to your doctor. 10 strips is not enough to do a proper taper based on what you are taking daily, but in my experience sub detox while sucky is no where near as bad as full opiates. It does drag on a bit longer.

The times I got off sub I was able to drop down quickly from high doses. It was the last 2mg to zero that always were the most difficult. I would take just enough to get by and space out my dose more and more.

I will warn you now though there is a high risk of relapse when you taper too quickly so think about what that might cost you in the end. $6,000 might be a drop in the bucket. (especially if you have flexible spending through insurance). If I were to relapse on dope I could easily spend 6 grand in two months and add on top of it the chance of arrest and or overdose and my choice would be simple. Find a way to complete the sub program the right way! Good Luck to you. Take Care!!!

Hello ripple! Welcome to SR! I'm sorry that I have no advise for you as far as detoxing goes. We are not even allowed to give medical advice on this forum. I just wanted to ask you if you could find another doctor who could prescribe it to you? One who charges cash for office visits? My sub doctor does not accept insurance. He charges $100 each month for my appointment. Then I use the coupon to fill my script. Without insurance plus the coupon I believe it's around $50 to fill a monthly script. That's just a ruff estimate....could be more. Do you think you can come up with that per month? You probably already know this, but there is a doctor search engine on suboxone.com. Maybe you could find a few near you and make some calls.

I really feel for you if your are forced to taper off sub that quickly. I'm no expert but your dose is a fairly high one. It seems to me it would be pretty rough and might be dangerous to detox off the amount you're on. Please try to get some medical support. Perhaps you can get into a detox facility if you absolutely must get off your sub.

Then you need to think about your recovery. What will happen when you begin craving again? You don't want to go back to dope again, right? Three months isn't very long to work on your recovery and build tools to combat urges if that is why you were on sub in the first place. If you were on it to detox off your DOC you wouldn't have been on sub for three months. I figure you were on it for maintenence.

Sorry I don't have anything else to offer. I hope it all works out for you!

welcome

I'd definitely speak with your Dr - they may have suggestions, at least on a workable taper plan.

Hi. This is something you and your doctor will have to work out. Of course there is a lot of information out there on the Internet with people's experience quitting sub that you can tap in to. There is another forum called suboxone talk zone that has a sub forum dedicated to quitting sub.

Like any opiate though. Quitting either CT or tapering boils down to are you emotionally ready and how much discomfort are you willing to endure/accept.

Good luck and please let us know how it goes.

hello and ty to all that read n replied!!! I guess adding a little history that lead up to my being on sub's may help! I have chronic back pain, have had all ink procedures that they are willing to do and surgeons turned me away for fear of how many surgeries I would have to go thru just to 'hope' it would help. I have been on high (24 30mg roxis/day) plus 4 80mg oxys/day. With that said, my body couldn't take anymore and jus gave up.

I spent a week in hospital followed by a month in inpatient rehab. Both of which did help, but only for 4 months before I wound up with excruciating pain and another problem happening where I needed surgery on my foot!! Then the pills started again.

One big vicious cycle, so much that I knew that I myself, could not be trusted holding my own meds. I turned over every script filled n only was given 1 day at a time. Yes it was sometimes a hassle for us both but I enjoyed living too much n when u have ur whole bottle, its so easy to just take another cuz u hurt.

that went on for another 2 years, getting my scripts weekly. Then everything came crashing down!!! The very morning of my apt, to get my meds that I was out of, the drs office calledbn told me that my problems were better handled by a specialist!!!!! R u kidding me?????

So the search begins.... phone book, laptop, any sources I found I called. Turned away from all.

I was at wits end. Didn't know who else to try so I called back a sub office that I left msg for n they answered!!! I didn't even have answers yet but still felt relieved!!! I was scared, crying, begging for help.

They saw me the very next day!!!!!! So they started me on sub's n discussed switching over to the Butrans patch for the pain!!!

I truly feel being on these, help my pain greatly, and the addiction!!!

Now, with the backfire about my ins, kinda makes me feel that it was a waste!! I know its not but that's how I felt!!! I finally got back as normal a life as I could n I love it, my kids, family friends are all happy to have ME back!!!

Thanks for reading!!!

Thank you for relating your story. My addiction began with an injury and legit scripts too. It's so unfortunate how using these meds for pain causes addiction. Too many of us have been sucked into the pain pill trap. I have heard of sub being used for pain. Have you tried to find another sub doctor? It's going to be sooo hard....nearly impossible to taper down with only 10 strips. I do not want you to go through that kind of agonizing withdrawal on top of the pain! Please tell me that you will not try to detox yourself!

I have seriously thought about trying, but then I think about all those times I felt crappy having to cut my meds down so I didn't run out. N it sucked!!! Fortunately, I really do like my dr, they understand and are trying to help me for the long run without having toxic pill levels just to function, the butrans patch!

I'm going to get the rest of my script using the biggest discount I can get but it's all going to be costly, not that the pills weren't this jus seems harder for some reason.

Thank u

Did you check out suboxone talk zone? They have some good info there and I believe it is run by a suboxone dr. So you may be able to get some medical advice from him on a more aggressive taper.
