9 teeth pulled, NO pain pills

My ten years of drug use, destroyed my teeth. Im not blaming it ALL on the drug use, but at least 80%.
well, valentines day was TEN months on suboxone for me, with no slips at all.

Ive had three abcesses in my mouth (most of my teeth are broken at the gumline) in the last 6 months. the latest one, wouldnt go away, even with a ton of antibiotics.

So I went to see the dental surgeon, with my tax return, and a family members help......... got a 'work up' of how much dentures would be,
grand total.......... $8,760
yesterday, they pulled all the bottom teeth, except for 4 rite in the center in which my partial denture will fit around. and since Im just 30, itll keep my jaw bone from recieting too much.
I didnt know if Id get thru it with just subs and motrin.
but its the end of day 2, and Im doing it!
my doc gave me a couple benzos to take before my procedure, to relax a lil since I was awake for the entire thing........ but relaxed at least
2 and half hours in the chair
I heard everything. those broken teethe being chipped outta my head!!

BUT, its day two, and I feel like the worst of the pain is behind me. well, at least til the top gets done. theyre taking ALL 13 of the top! gonna have a full denture up there.
Im so happy I'll be able to smile agian.
Ive been hiding my teeth for so long. every pic when I smile, I never show my teeth.
its something thats been a daily reminder of the terrible choices I made, and am/was currently liveing with in recovery.
I DO feel 'empowered' today.
it felt so good to say 'no' I do need any pain pills.......:c011:
when all I used to do was TRY and convince the docs I needed more!!
suboxone and dental work, even vigourous work can be done.
you just gotta prepare for it.:grouphug:
I skipped my dose the night before surgery, and didnt take any till after i got home from the dentist the day of. I did this just in case i did choose to take something else, and so if I DIDNT i'd hopefully feel some kind of pain relief from my suboxone. AND i did.
I was so happy my plan 'A' worked.
and I'll know what to expect when I go in to get the top 13 out!!!
thanks for letting me share

the excitement of being able to smile agian helps a little too!!

Wow, with that extensive work done, I'd say you should get some kind of lower grade pain pills.

I also have teeth issues although I have been sober for some time my embarrisment keeps me from going to the dentist.I'm hoping this is the push I need thank you

today was one week since my procedure, and went for my check up and to get the stiches out,
Dr. said everything looked really good. I go back in a month to do a last impression, then my new teeth will get made (partial denture for the bottom)
as soon as I get all the bottom stuff squared away,
it'll be time to get'm ALL pulled on the top.
Im still taking motrin every 6 hours, but I havent needed the tylenol for a few days now. It feels SO MUCH better than it did a few weeks ago.
My dentist said this problem is becoming more and more 'popular' with the younger generation, not only becuase of meth use, which is what almost everyone thinks of right away.
he says the drymouth caused by alot of pain pills, which everyone knows is VERY common these days, Makes ANYTHING and everything you eat or drink STICK like tar to your teeth.
Even brushing may not be enough. Then to top it off, SOME drugs deplete nutrients in your body, which can errode your enamel. which never comes back.
SO Im guessing, Im not the only one with dental issues.
I mean, I know Im not, but I get the feeling we all will be hearing more about these issues soon.
It sux, it really does. becuase its not cheap at all!!!
IM SO HAPPY IM GETTING them FIXED for GOOD though....
Its a long process though!!!
gotta be patient!!!!!

FYI - I too had awful teeth from drug use, in my case I was luckier as I only lost my top teeth. Of course when I started (Aug. 2011) I was still a heavy oxy user so, I, of course gladly took the oxy script to add to my inventory even though they were 'only 5mg.'. Anyway the story ends well, since I've been clean for over 100 days and have nice new teeth. Good luck and stay strong!

Jazzy jazz, Welcome, but this thread was written in 2012...

Regardless, I don't think anyone here can give you medical advice about your Subs. Talk to the prescribing doctor.
